VDI numbers

Nickels - 51 to 53
Zinc pennies - 75 to 76
Copper pennies - 79 to 82
Dimes - 82 to 84
Quarters - 86 to 88
Silver dimes and quarters stay in those ranges but are jumpy signals.

Screw caps usually come in between 77 and 80 but are a louder tone than pennies. Keys can come in this range too.

VDI's seem to go up a little in really wet ground.

[size=large]once again, it depends on your soil. here in the N.W. i have been finding nickels between 48-60. don't know why. pennies are coming in as dimes at around 81-83 and some 70's. as it gets wetter maybe the numbers will settle back some. one trick i found is if it sounds high and comes in at 70-82 and says 2" down i check with my pro pointer first. most of the time if it don't pick it up then it's a bottle cap or pop can. you really gotta dig to learn what your machine is telling you in your soil. don't forget one of the cool things about the pro. switching from std to pro modes over targets helps to eliminate some.

Couldn't have summarized it better myself - this is exactly what I get here in VA as well.
