Vdi numbers on twist off caps=strange

I just started to play around with my new mxt pro, and came to notice that bottle caps register in the 20-30 vdi range for the most part. I currently only have the coincentric 950 coil for it, but I guess never noticed this with my dfx, probably because I almost always had a DD on it. My xterra and at pro also have DD's on them, so they register the same bottle caps as copper penny, dime, or in some cases quarter.
This brings a few thoughts to mind. I have been to many sites that have far to many bottle caps to sort through with even the smallest of DD. Now I'm thinking I may be able to quickly and effectively go over those same areas and pull the silvers from the bottle caps.
The other thought is if I had say the 5.3 coil and ran the discriminator up just past the low 30's and went in 2 tone, maybe the silvers would come alive in such areas. I don't know, I guess I'll have to wait for some feedback or learn first hand in the field. I've got myself curious for sure.

Ron, This is something I have noticed with my 10" D2 as well. See my comment on this post, 3rd comment (or 2nd reply) on the page...HERE.

DD coils seem to ID bottle caps very high, as high as quarter sometimes. The idea you have is pretty good but remember, most people that pounded that area before you probably used a concentric coil and all those bottle caps read as bottle caps. DD coils have their place, especially in heavy trash and high mineralization, but they seem to ID less accurately. If the area your talking about is heavily littered, your DD coils will SEE individual targets better than the 950, albeit, with less ID accuracy. If you use the 950 coil, you'll know those bottle caps are bottle caps before digging, perhaps. BUT the trash so close together will most likely mask any good targets between or UNDER those bottle caps. The BEST thing to do is get the bottle caps out of the ground. Start in a small area that you can manage. Ignoring everything below +35 or so could leave goodies that are right next to, or under, a bottlecap or pulltab. The good news is, if there are so many bottlecaps there, people before you probably missed a LOT of good stuff underneith them as well. No two ways around a bottle cap, it has to come out.
