i was looking at that F5 for my first detector until i learned about tesoro and bought the vaquero which has been a good machine. i have been eyeing the xp deus. i may be wrong but, you should be looking to spend a grand at least for a decent vdi unit. have read good and bad with the cheaper ones. the ones over like $1200 seem to be the ones that most are happy with. dont know what all the hype is with those garrett at-pro's though. hunt with people who use them, i have tried them a few times. other than being waterproof, well sometimes. i will keep the vaquero. that marko racer and nokta fors core look decent though for under a grand. read some unlikable things about the F5 display screen going bad.Snap On Man said:How about a Fisher F5? Give me some input on this machine. This looks like it has both covered.
Ivan said:Since I've gone to VDI detectors my ring finds have quadrupled. I only dig a narrow range of numbers but boy does it work. I found 32 gold rings last year ...not interested in change or silver coins....you need a bucket full to equal the same value as a gold ring...and to top it off lots of the jewelry and rings have diamonds. Almost all of them found nowhere near beaches!! But mainly in trashy fields and parks.NO ID detector and you will have No idea at all what the targets are. It's those little hints on the meter that spell success. I tried the Deleon not bad, but it only works well in mild ground the Cortez only marginally better. You need a powerful.... ground balance adjustable, high freq machine to get the job done. The book "Taking a Closer look at Metal Detector Discrimination" by Robert C. Brockett will amaze you and it is relevant for all detector types and brands. This cheap $10.00 booklet is worth it's weight in GOLD!!!!! Good luck and specialize in digging for gold....leave the rest for amatuers!!!
Me, too! The way I do it is to notch out tabs only, leaving foil and nickel segments- and this only in high trash areas. Most of the rings in my area hit in the foil/nickel or screwcap area. But I'm always open to anything.JJdigs said:Ivan said:Since I've gone to VDI detectors my ring finds have quadrupled. I only dig a narrow range of numbers but boy does it work. Your reply has left me wondering what VDI MACHINE HAS SCORED ALL THAT GOLD BLING. And what your trick is to using the VDI as to pass the target and move on or dig the target ? Thanks
