vdi for nickles

What is the best vdi's for nickles? What is the best way to tell them from pulltabs. I just got a new mxt about a mounth ago and i seem to dig a lot of pulltabs.

I have dug nickels anywhere from 16 to 22, but for the most part they are in the 18-20 range for me anyway. I dig all pull tabs, because that is the same range as gold rings and I have dug a nice aray of those golden pulltabs. HH Dennis in Idaho

I agree with Dennis. Usually in the 18 - 20 range. Good luck and HH, Nancy

On my mxt a solid 20 from all directions is a nickel always.

If your doing an air test then it will show a little differently in the ground.

A 18 to 20 for VID..... You can flip the switch forwards and check for a broken signal???? doesn't always work. But when you pin point the signal will be a deeper sound then a pull tab. Takes a little practice but you'll get it. And when you do you'll be very proud of yourself. If you get a good sold broken signal when swinging in all directions DIG it is most likely a :yikes:RING!!!!!!!

I agree with the 16-20 VDI for nickels. Usually it's 18-20. When I get the bouncing signal from 16-20 it also is a nickel. Check my post

that day because I was hunting rings I was digging solid 14 and 22 hits and look what happened. Rob

If I am using the stock coil, it's almost always a solid 20. It does made a difference what coil you're using. They tend to vary 2 numbers. Boy, sure wish it wasn't snowing and blowing outside! HH to all, Nancy

Every time I get a reading from 16-20 it's nearly always a nickle. I have retrieved a few at 14 and 22.

when I get a 20 in all directions it is a nickel every time. I did get a broken up 20 that jumped around and it was a shielded nickel and I am glad I dug it
I consider the MXT lethal on nickels or any coin for that matter lol

That effect with the shield is "the other" halo effect. When coins sit in situ for that long, the more reactive metals of it's composition, leach out and skew the reading. Can't tell you how many times that a Standing Liberty Quarter has came back as a penny (with upward spiking of VDI's) and out came a white/powdery surfaced coin with it's surface copper left behind in the "halo". (One time the coin was only 3" deep!) In fact, most older coins at that site were skewed a bit and then it dawned on me...the place was an old dry cleaner business and the weird hits were all up close to the building... where the "leaching" was probably aggravated by chemical exposure! (I know it aggravated me!) See this same effect close in to tree roots too. I have never worked another machine that loves the nickels like the MXT.
