Hunting without a detector!

Heading to a cub scout campout on Saturday and had to pick up a few things at the grocery store and decided to pay with cash. As the clerk opened the register the beautiful buffalo was in full view and hit me like a laser between the eyes. I immediately asked if I could trade another nickel for "that one" and she obliged. I was even more shocked to see most of the date. Believe it's 1917. Hard to believe it's been circulating for over 90 years. Or maybe someone came across it in a drawer and just used it. What story could this coin tell?

More than likely it came from some parent's coin collection. Good eye! HH, Nancy

I've been collecting coins all my life & if you "train" your eyes, you'll be amazed what you can find! I've found Indians, Silver Quarters & dimes, TONS of wheaties etc... in everyplace from Banks to FF joints! When they're giving your change back to you, just stare at their hand & if you see something interesting say " I need some change, here's a dollar" or whatever & they'll hand it right over to you!
It's sad but interesting to note that in today's TERRIBLE economy, people are SPENDING their coin collections & even using their KIDS collections just to get by! There's more "Keepers" in circulation NOW than in any time in the last bunch of years! Keep your eyes open!
