This is a stupid question but why is the Default on Pin Point Rachet? I am not even sure what the Pin Point is supposed to do in Rachet.

????? I don't know most people use VCO, I do.

Good observative question. What the Whites engineering group thought when they made Ratchet default is clueless to me. Nobody I know with V3i machines get's past week one before going to VCO. I have much the same puzzlement about why Whites made the TID not default in the M6. You gotta switch forward on the 6 for tones. Why?

Actual user's feedback obviously doesn't rule. Most manufacturers have a final process called "final design" where these things get streamlined. Just sayin

Personally, I like Ratchet. It's mono tone and no blaring sound. The only thought is why White's chose Ratchet as a default is the older detector's i.e., Coinmasters IV & V; 5000, 6000 & 5900, 6000 di pro that have meters typically were monotone in search and in pinpoint.

So keeping with the old function may be that White's gave you the consumer the choice (ractchet vs. vco). Isn't it great that we have choices?

Don't really like VCO because of the variable low to high tone generated by the oscillator. So I'm one of the few.
