Got my Vaquero today and took it straight to the woods.Found a 1912 barber dime . WOOHOO!! and this metal box. Cigarette box , maybe. I wonder what is in it? Im gonna have a couple of drinks before opening it. Check back and Ill update what is inside.

I learned a few things. Vaqueros pick up tiny pieces of metal. Plus i cant pinpoint wirtha darn , yet.And when venturing in the woods take a shovel.

Way to go!!!!

Get a piece of card board and glue a dime, penny, quarter, and Nickle to one side about 12 inches apart at least... Mark a spot on the opposite side where coins are and practice pinpointing with coins on bottom side.. We had new club members/Detectorists do this at our meetings... They learned very fast how to pinpoint.

I'm a little surprised about the pinpointing thing. The Tesoros I've had (Eldorado, Tejon, Cibola) pinpoint better than any machine I've had. In fact, I don't usually have to go into pinpoint mode at all. Elton's suggestion will reveal if pinpointing is off or if you just need to get used to how they pinpoint. If you run that test, let us know how it worked out for ya.

First off, CONGRATS on the new Vaquero and the finds. That may be an old cosmetic tin?

As far as, "I learned a few things. Vaqueros pick up tiny pieces of metal. Plus i cant pinpoint wirtha darn "

I totally agree, but........
I too just got a Vaquero and did my maiden voyage last weekend at a tot lot. I was having a heck of a time learning the new tone, and pinpointing after using a Silver uMax for over 5 years.
I can say that my 2nd outing yesterday to an old farm property was a lot better. Within just those two hunts my pinpointing is accurate again, and I've figured out which are good signals. The Vaquero does go DEEP! I pulled some small .22 cal lead from about 8" out in the woods. I'm sure the more we use our machines it will only get a lot better.
Good luck to you.

With the exception of small change I havent found anything worth a hoot. But I dont have any trouble on pinpointing.

MondernMiner has it right. I'm sure the more we use our machines it will only get a lot better. No detector comes with experience included, and learning the new machine like your previous one takes time and yields results.

Just gotta be real patient when pinpointing....Just go over the target at a reasonable speed and wait for where the highest pitched tone is..then just slow down the distance your moving the coil and you should eventually get it. It took me some time, but i startin to figure it out

When you think the target is centered under the coil, X the coil front to back and left to right a short bit and you'll soon get the hang of it and won't even need the pinpoint button or the all metal option most of the time. I also mentally try to picture in my mind the spot where the target seemed centered when I remove the coil in order to dig. Works for me.
