i just bought a tesoro vaquero and was wondering how will this machine do at the beach?also i have never hunted for relics , but will start with this machine. im hearing that this thing is pretty great. i am now a garrett user, ace 250 and gtp 1350.but im ready to start trying other brands. tell me how this machine proforms relic hunting and beach hunting. and for that matter coin and jewlery hunting.lol my other two machines run 6.5 and 7.2 khz? i see the tesoro uses 14+khz. what is the main differencesin these?thanks alot for and info.

I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Using the vaquero is different than your current units. No screen id is different and takes some getting used to. However, the Vaquero is deeper, has stronger audio signals and the pinpoint is right on. Just turn it on do a manual ground balance, turn either hunt in all metal then test your target with a turn of the disc. knob. Air tests even on small gold pickers in an air test is better than higher priced units. I still do not know how it will do in highly mineralized ground yet. The high 14 kHz will be great for coins and jewelery. Just give it some time to get used to and get ready to dig.

Couldn't get a good ground balance. Even with lowering the sen. I don't know if it was the right choice. I took ground balance like doing an air test and took it up just a bit.
Didn't find a lot because I don't think there was a lot to find.
Not to busy this time of year, but did have some fun, and did find some down about 7".
But when we go to Maine this year it may be different?
Time will only tell. but I do Love that Vaquero.

Happy Hunting

Bill,

I have a Vaquero and have used it in a wide range of soil conditions. There are those that complain about not being able to get a good ground balance under certain conditions. It is true that under some ground conditions you will not be able to get a PERFECT ground balance even with reduced sensitivity. The 3 1/2 turn ground balance control just does not have enough resolution to get it perfect. My Gold Bug 2 has a course and a fine adjustment and the fine is a 10 turn control. However, you can always get it close enough to still have excellent performance. Remember, if you can't get it perfect always set it so the threshold get a little louder as the coil approaches the ground. This will insure that you will be able to find the smaller weaker targets.

I balance my Vaquero this way on the beach. I have to run the sensitivity around 8 and since salt water is conductive like real targets I have to run the discrimination right under iron to eliminate the false beeps or keep them to a minimum.

Each detector is slightly different so you might have to tweak this settings a little differently on your detector. However, if set up right it will do a very respectable job on salt water beaches. I think better than most VLF detectors.

Good Luck with your new Vaquero It is one of the best on the market and will fill your treasure chest with great finds if you take the time to really use and learn what it is telling you.

God Bless,

Smitty II
