I have done very well with the Vaquero for coins, it has good depth and has good discrimination. But what about deep silver, or silver in general. It hits hard on copper and nickles but will it find the silver .:tesoro:

It was black and I thought it was junk... A little rubbing and silver ;-)

so yes, it will

Your chances should be pretty good if yo live somewhere that the ground freezes each year so all you have to do is pass your coil over it. If someone hasn't already done that. You may also notice that deep silver will not repond if you disc is set too high.
I live where it hardly if ever freezes and hunters hit the parks everyday. The coins continue to sink all year long and I think just about all those hunters use the High End detectors too! When I was using my arm busting complicated detector I too was finding the silver. But hardly ever with my cheaper and lighter detectors (tesoro). It's also a chore to dig up a silver dime 7-8 in hard dried up clay too. And that's about to only silver I found too. Silver dimes. Worth about a buck sixty. So experience has taught me that most of those high end detector users go for those sweet silver signals only and ignore most shallow and pull tab range signals, leaving me the easy to dig up gold rings and clad.

this may be true in a few cases, but your more experienced hunters will NOT not pass on those signals
because, as you pointed out,..the "hits" MAY be gold rings, and or silver rings!

I read this posting a few weeks back and can relate to the rodbuster in the vaquero hitting hard on copper penny's here is Canada. I have had my Vaquero about 6 months and the way I was setting up the discrimination it was only getting me penny's. I have learned a lot about the sounds of this machine but after reading this form and getting sick of digging penny's I have changed my discrimination settings and to just above "Iron" and the results are wonderful. I was at a school playground today and in 20 minutes pulled 9 dimes (some 9 inches deep) one of which is silver 1 quarter 1 nickle and 3 penny's. Half the fun was calling the coin before digging. I also started to use the AM mode and it is deep and accurate for pinpointing. I was getting discouraged at the lack of silver and was questioning my choice of a audio only detector but after a few adjustment to my settings I am feeling much more confident in my ability and the Vaquero. One other strategy that is helping is turning back the threshold to about 12 o-clock from the usual 1 to 2 o-clock this gives me the shallow targets in playground pea gravel that has a hard as cement under layer.
Your posting has stopped me from hunting ........................................................ for a new detector. Hope this encourages newbies to stick with it and keep practicing because if your practicing your learning. Copper first now Silver you know whats next Gold. .
