Vaquero with an 8 inch Concentric coil ?

OK guys ....What's the deal ? .....You just don't see the 8 inch donut on a stock 4 pin Tesoro detector ...I was checking around my test garden today and took my brothers little Silver uMax out for a spin .... It came stock with an 8 inch donut and I was hovering over a quarter that I had buried a couple years back ...It's down about 6 inches or so and I was hovering over it a good 3 inches and was getting a strong repeatable signal ..... It rained the day before and the ground was still moist , so that played a part of the equation too ...I have to say that I was pretty flipped out about hearing how good the tone sounded and how accurate the coil was on this target ...... So now I'm wondering if this would be a pretty darn good coil to use on my Vaquero ...I realize that my Vaquero needs the 4 pin and not the 5 pin on the Silver uMax ...... If you're running an 8 inch Concentric donut on your 4 pin machine , please let me know how you're liking it ....I saw only a couple of threads on this combo which seemed pretty positive ......Thanks in advance ......Also , how are the Concentric coils on the Tesoro's when using them at a saltwater beach ....NOT IN THE WATER , but dry sand / moist sand ? .....Thanks again ...

I don't know about the Vaquero, But I use it and only it on My Golden uMax. I tried the the New precision 7, a Rare 10.5 Concentric and the stock 8x9 Spider coil and nothing comes close to the 8" Brown Donut on Depth and Holding the High Tone on Deep Coins rite to the edge of Depth.
Going to get a Second one as a back up.

I have the 8" doughnut coil on my Vaquero, and I really like it. It is lighter than the 8x9 coil that comes standard on the Vaquero, so it balances better and seems to go just as deep. I think that the reason more people don't buy it is because it only comes with an 8 foot cord. I sent my coil in to Tesoro right after I bought it, and they shortened the cord to the standard 3 foot length. Maybe if more people started buying it and sending it in for the cord to be shortened, they would start offering it with a 3 foot cord.

I have many 8" donuts. They are a really great coil.
For beginners that center hole really helps pinpointing on the compadres. But all in all, it's a great coil on all the detectors I run it with. Really great coil all around.

Thanks for the info guys.....Is there anything in the 4 pin cable that makes it hard to shorten it oneself if desired ? I know some of the Minelab cables are near imposible to shorten , plus the fact that on some of their detectors , you change the resistance by altering the cable , thereby altering how the machine reacts ......Thanks ...Jim

Don't try shortening it yourself Jim, it isn't worth the risk.------Vince Gifford (Tesoro) told me once that they would shorten any coil cable I wanted them to.-----Evidently their policy hasn't changed as that other gentleman had one shortened by them.----I don't know what the cost is these days though & there would be shipping costs involved.--------Del

I was even told recently by Nathan @ Tesoro that they could change the connector from 4 pin male (old Lobo) to the "Delta" style 4 pin female. I have an old Lobo nugget coil (the small one) I want to try on my Tejon, so I emailed to ask.

Because I was the original registered owner of my Vaquero, they did not charge me anything to shorten the cable. I only had to pay the shipping to send it in to them.

I don't know if the cable length has anything to do with the coil's "tune", but it's probably easy to cut the cable and resolder the connector.

Pinenut,
As far as I know cable length has nothing to do with tune. Tuning is done inside the housing with spacing of coils and wave pattern read from their spacing and orientation.

But I'm no expert by any means. Lol

I'm not sure what the inside of the cable looks like, but Del is saying it's not worth the risk....??????????....it seems like a lot of hassle to pay to have the coil sent to me just to have to send send it off again just to have it shortened and then pay to have it sent back to me...sounds like a pretty expensive coil/cable to me

I just had a nice talk with Rusty...he's sending me the 8inch concentric w/short cable...I'm a happy camper...:bouncy:

As long as you buy from rusty, any changes can be made before shipping so you don't have to ship back.
High tone vaquero mod, cable length, etc.

Yeah. .....I'm all set! Coil will be on it way Monday...coil,scuff,and shortened cable, all taken care of....one stop shop....

I got my coil from Rusty today.....I'm really liking this coil......pinpoints great, and has the depth I expected, not to mention really good separation!!!
