Vaquero vs, XLT

Vaquero vs, XLT .... Can someone please tell me how these 2 machines stack up against each other? depth etc . I have a Vaquero and was thinking about the XLT . any help would sure be appreciated. Thanks.

1.. To know what type(s) of detecting you presently do?

2.. What type(s) of detecting you plan on doing?

3.. What it is about the Vaquero that you do not like or find lacking or just don't understand?

4.. What is it about the XLT that captured your attention and has you considering this dramatic change in models?

Then, you will be able to get some better answers to your question rather than just a simple opinion (common) such as 'I don't like it' or 'I couldn't figure it out' or something else.

Both are good detectors and have their strengths and weaknesses. There might even be some good suggestions made for other models to consider. Regardless of the unit you have now or in the future, be sure to factor in the importance and versatility of having a smaller-than-stock coil.

Monte , I do have a Vaquero and found it to be very stable and deep . But I was thinking about a ID Detector like the XLT or the Quattro . I like Coinshooting the most . I detect at old yards , Farm fields and cellar holes . I had a CZ but here in MA it just liked iron to much . So I'm leaning towards a ID for coins .

I hope you're considering keeping your Vaquero to compliment a Target ID model. Too bad the folks at Tesoro haven't put the time and effort into the R&D of two or three TID models that would truly be competitive in today's market.

They certainly have captured the bulk of the interest in the non-metered segment, but when you consider that easily 70%, and more likely 85% or more, of all those in the metal detecting hobby "coin hunt" at least a little, and most exclusively, models with visual TID are obviously in high demand. Let's face it, most Target ID systems are designed to help describe potential coin targets, not relics or jewelry.

Not all TID models on the market are well designed, either. Too many of them rely on a factory preset GB for one or both operating modes, and this can seriously impact their field performance. I was hoping that Tesoro was on the 'right track' with the development of the Cort

Monte thank you so much for your help . You gave me allot to think about . Right now I can only afford one detector . So it looks like I will have to trade my "V' or sell it and put it up for sale and use the money towards a TID detector . the Explorer is out of my reach at this time . I thought that the Quattro would do deeper then the XLT . But I could be wrong about that ( just hear say !?! ) . So I guess I'm down to the MXT, XLT, or the Quattro . Like I said 99% of the time I coinshoot . Again that you for all your help .

So far my finds haven't dropped off at all compared to the XLT or MXT. Once you get use to the Cortes it is a fantastic machine. I also have the Bandido II uMax that I use just for relic hunting. All I have is Tesoro anymore and I'm not sad I switched.

have gotten to the point that I don't use the display a "hole" lot. If you want I may be willing for an even trade if your machine is in perfect working order. Mine is in perfect working order. Has two battery packs. One for alkaline or rechargeable batteries and the other is a nicd battery pack. It will probably need changing as with all nicd's after a couple of years they start to go. I still use it though. Has a soft carry case, a battery charger, ear phones and of course the manual. Found some very nice things with it over the years. Used it mostly in open fields. I like its ability to cover large area (9.5"" coil) very efficiently. I am looking for something lighter (Tesoro) and not interested in a ID display.
