Vaquero vs. Tejon

I'm thinking about "parking" my MXT(for health reasons) and going with either a Tejon or Vaquero. I had considered an Ace 250, but found too many "mixed" reviews on those. Tesoros have proven themselves to me time and time again. I probably do 60% relic hunting, and 40% coin/jewelry hunting. My question is....Is the Tejon THAT much better than the Vaquero? Soil around here is probably average as far as mineralization goes, with some hot spots, and some neutral areas. My Silver uMax handles the soil around here well, but I'm going to replace the MXT with a Tesoro of some sort. Thanks for any tips.

if you go to page two of the Tesoro Forum we had a great discussion on this. I personally decided to keep my Vaquero, unless I get a really good deal on a Tejon.
Just my to cents
:pulltab:

Thanks, Pulltab. I must have missed that discussion. I'll check it out...Leaning towards the Vaq, though...

I have Cibola and Tejon (and CZ6A). In my yard, Tejon found small lead weights and brass pieces that Cibola missed (both detectors in discriminate set to iron). Cibola shows fixed ground balance is very much on the positive side, so being able to ground balance (like Vaquero) may make up some of the difference. For 60% plus of my outings I grab the Cibola because it is light and doesn't wear me out.

The Cib is a great machine. I had one once, but the Silver uMax seemed to do just as well. I really like the Cib, though. For the money, you can't beat one!

I own a Tejon , Eldorado Umax , Silver Umax and just recently purchased a ACE 250

I also read all the mixed reviews on the ACE eg: poor pinpointing slow repsponse poor depth ect ....I had also read all the garbage bagging of the Tejon yet I found non of this to be fact , so ya just cant belive half the tripe on the net

I took a chance brought the ACE and there aint no lookin back its a very good detector and if I could only have 1 detector the ACE would most likely be it , bit of toss up between it an the Tejon  but I'd gladly swap the Silver for a 250 anyday of the week without a second thought !

I would take another look at the ACE if I wer you , that lil yella fella has a hell of a lot to offer for the $$$

the only thing I dont like about the ACE is its a bit nose heavy

BTW the Tesoro's kill the ACE when it comes to masking of coins in amost iron trash , I think I spoke a bit to soon after waking  NO WAY I would keep the ACE over the Tejon for sure what was I thinking  well Ive learnt not to comment while half asleep , as fot the Silver swap well thats abit of an overstatement , if I was wanting my first detector the ACE was probly suit better but there really different horses for different corse's ... .sorry for any confusion I caused
