Vaquero vs Tejon in terms of depth

I have been hearing great things about both machines. But I have heard some people say that the tejon gets better depth. But then I hear other people say that the vaquero gets the same if not better depth than the tejon and is more stable. I am not sure which to believe. I am interested not in all metal depth, but the depth that the detector will get while discriminating all of the iron. Maybe some of you vaquero/tejon owners can help.
Thanks,
Justin

the folks posting the comparisons are REALLY saying "MY Tejon or Vaquero is deeper than the other". I've had a couple Tejons and one Vaquero. Until I bought the most recent Tejon, it was valid for me to say the Vaquero was deeper. This particular Tejon I have now is a tad deeper than my Vaquero USUALLY. So you can see that the comparisons we read are really valid just about the two particular detectors the user has and using in their location. If you want to buy the deeper of the two and you don't want to be guessing if you got what you wanted, I'd highly recommend you try both at the same place and time before you buy and then buy whichever impresses you the most.

I've only used one Vaquero and it seemed to like the brass real well. Never dug anything super deep with it when I used it but it sure didnt have a problem sucking up brass.I was impressed one time in particular when the V picked up a small flat button right through a thick red brick. Picked it up real well too.I didnt like the tone on the machine as it made it more difficult for me to tell iron compared to my tejon but I've got a lot of time on the T. If I had that much with the V I'd figure it out I'm sure. The T is one deep detector considering all you have is the 9 inch coil.I'm sure they're close but I'd still give the edge to the tejon.

No shortcut or magic potion; skill and experience is the key to max depth with most any detector. Bottom line: the Tejon has a tad higher khz signal. In some soils it could be capable of deeper penetration. But vice versa is true with the Vaquero in some soils. Both are very sensitive; both can pull good nonferrous items out of heavy iron trash; both can detect at good depth. Compare the features, weight, battery requirements and you should make the right decision for your personal needs. I have no reservations about either detector. Just like buying a new vehicle; you know the brand you want, now which model do I buy? The one that best suits your needs. Good hunting, David @ Dixie
