Vaquero versus El Dorado

D&P-OR

Well-known member
I'm aware the Vaquero replaced the El Dorado and am also aware of the changes made on these two detectors.---My question(s) to anyone that has used both these detectors.-------(1) On coin size objects-does the Vaquero (H.O.T. circuitry) REALLY get that much more depth than the El Dorado? (in same ground & with like settings)-------(2) Which one is the "smoothest", quietest running (handles mineralization & trashy areas the best)?-------(3) Lastly, (in general) which one of these two detectors is the best choice for a COIN hunting machine? (under the conditions described)-----Appreciate any other input on this subject you would care to give.----------Thanks, Del

Both are smooth and quiet and handle trash well, but the newer coils are much better in my opinion. Both are great coin machines but I would pick the V over the E any day. And yes, I think the V is deeper.

I've owned both and the Eldorado was MUCH smoother, in my opinion. I had a much harder time setting the ground balance with the Vaquero, and the threshold was a lot more erratic. I actually never took the Eldorado out on a hunt, because I had to sell it to cover a last minute expense, but the air tests were virtually the same with both detectors. I've read numerous posts where owners stated their Eldorado got the same depth as their Vaquero.

What I really liked about the Eldorado was the 10khz frequency. Good for silver coins.

If memory serves, it seems I remember Monte making a statement favoring the Eldorado. I have one and have been very pleased with it, but haven't actually used the V so can't make a comparison statement.

I prefer my El Dorado hands down over the Vaquero. I sold my Vaquero and bought a Silver Umax and put a 8x9 web coil on it and think it a better performer than the Vaquero ever was. That El Dorado talks to me, The Silver is just a work horse and the Vaquero well, was just kinda there?

i had both and maybe the V is slightly deeper....i did like the E alot better. it seemed smoother,i liked the all metal switch versus button, the 10 khz seems to like silver better than 14 does. most all tesoros are great machines.
