I had been having some difficulty with falsing and ground balancing recently and sent of my Vaq for a complete checkup including coils. When returned they said that the GB was set 2 1/2 turns too far. They tightened up the knobs a little and checked out the coils or so they said when I called to double check since the repair tag did not say so. I had also originally suggested that the threshold was set too far to the right as the tone as always started between 1 and 2 o'clock instead of around 10 o'clock which seems to be standard for most tesoro owners. My question is, how does this adjustment relate to GB and Disc and the overall perormance of the unit. Thanks for looking.

If I read your post correctly, it's a good bet that the falsing etc. was caused by the GB being out so far which would have been just a matter of turning it back. As to the the threshold setting, as long as it goes silent when turned to the left and returns as the knob is turned to the right, it doesn't matter where the knob actually points. However, if you're more comfortable with the settings you mention, you could loosen the knob and move it on the shaft to suit you, then tighten it up again. As to how the threshold relates you need to hear a threshold hum, of course, in order to ground balance and a light hum when in all metal will register a slight raise in tone when a deep target that is too deep to give a full signal is under the coil. A properly set threshold and ground balance on that machine will also give the best performance when in discrimination mode even though the threshold is silent in that mode. Hope this is helpful.

Thanks BarberBill. I have been in touch with Tesoro and others here on the forum And since the repair tag did in fact say the GB was too far CCW it was just a matter of tesoro readjusting it. I am also aware now that it does not matter where the Threshold is set as log as I get the proper responses right or left as you say.

For what it is worth, my Vaquero's threshold kicks in between one and two o'clock also.

That is better than not having it kick in at all.

Manual states between 10 to 3 o clock is normal for threshold position.I set my Vaquero at about 1 o clock for most hunting but will ease it back to 12 o clock for shallow depth or hunting along a metal objects like a fence or playground equipment.

Regardless of where the knob points, the threshold should be set where you can just hear an audible, non-distracting hum. Unless you are trying to run super tuned in discriminate where the threshold should be turned all the way up. In that case remember to turn it back before switching to all metal or all metal pinpoint or you risk blasting your ears.
