Vaquero Test Garden Results

kimbershot

New member
Summary: I planted my garden on Jan. 30th with the realization that it should be properly "aged" to get a truly accurate picture of dectector performance--but I was anxious to try out my new acquisition. Test date--Feb. 3.

Impressions--results much better than anticipated--can't wait to get out and go real world.

Super Tuned--all targets registered a hit

All Metal Mode--all targets registered a hit

Discrimination mode: set below nickel-see notes

1917 Netherlands

the outlaw is just as good , interesting test

i realize that nickels can be found at deeper depths then 5 inches. the coins were only "planted" the other day. i couldn't get an acceptable tone in discriminate mode without super tuning. all metal mode--no issue--each target registered.

i also used my garrett sea hunter 11 to check it's response to the newly planted targets--as expected, it was spot on 100%.

Your test garden will take years for the ground matrix to re-establish. I have a Silver uMax and it gets a little less than you do and my test garden is 1.5 years old. Out in the field though it will hit 7" coins. Don't put any faith in a fresh test garden. By the way others have tested their detectors on my test garden and have also had poor results, but find coins much deeper when detecting.

To make a good test garden, use a three inch diameter pipe with the end sharpened, cut your plug and remove, insert coin flat, re-insert plug. This way very little of the ground matrix is disturbed. All the particles in the ground over time get arranged so that their plusses and minuses acheive a linear alignment and this makes the ground a nice uniform medium to transmit through. Dig it all up and dump it back in the hole and the molecular alignment is a mess and the ground because a poor medium to transmit through and then you depth suffers.

Also your Sea Hunter is PI machine and that is a very different beast than a VLF machine.
