Vaquero sniffs out old silver today

fwcrawford

I found this coin around an old home site today with the Vaquero and 5.75" coil.
It is only one of only two coins found here today... the other one was a modern penny.
I also found a thimble and an old hammer there.
My buddy found a nice axe head there also, but came up short on the coins.. Maybe next time.

Thanks for looking,
Felix

Capped bust dime. Excellent. I've only found one in about twenty years of hunting.

Capped bust dime

Excellent axe head too. Your buddy got a keeper with that.

Were you super tuned when you found the coin? How deep was it? Was there a lot of iron junk?

Congrats.

That's some nice old stuffr.

Tha dime is awsome.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog

The coin was actually only about 2" deep as best as I can tell. The ground in some places was frozen and very hard to dig signals, but luckily, where this was found the ground was soft.
There was some iron trash around close to the house, but I found this about 30 yards in what I think was the front of the house.
The area has been cleared and some of the top soil has been disturbed which led me to this area where the ground was undisturbed.
Hopefully not all the coins got pushed away during the clearing and there is alot of broken pieces of glass on top of the ground.
I did not have the Vaquero supertuned at this site and it was quiet as a mouse until it went over a large piece of iron or some other target.
I did not dig any nails even with the disc. set very low.
I do like this detector when hunting old home sites like this one as it is very light and quiet when hunting in the trashy areas.
I don't worry about ID readings, since you don't know what is in the ground here anyway and I would rather dig some trash than pass up a good target
because of an iffy ID reading.
