Vaquero relics and coins

Took the Vaquero out last week to look for some Historic Indian relics and then went across the road to search for a few more farm field coins.

Searched for a couple of hrs. on the Indian site and found the bottom half of an iron arrow pt., part of a copper bracelet, a finger ring (stamped 18k but was plated), another copper adornment of some type, buttons, musket balls and the main spring from a muzzleloader. The best find was an old beaver trap, probably a Newhouse trap from the 1860's but won't know for sure until I do electrolysis on it. Pretty much all intact, luckily it was just below the plow zone.

I than went across the road to where an old farm once stood. I posted a pic of some coins I found there a couple of weeks ago. Thought I'd give it another try and was able to find another silver coin, a Buffalo nickle, and a Jefferson nickle. This field is loaded with old iron farm trash but the vaq. does a really nice job of ignoring most of it.

On one site I want to dig iron and the other site ignore it. The Vaquero did well at both.

Nice finds. I never found an Indian head penny or nickel yet. Were you DISCing iron only? I have a VAQ and usually use DISC mode if I do not want to dick up playgrounds, etc. by going too deep.

Nice hunt! That's a super nice buffalo nickel and silver is always a great find.

Way to go.

Don't get discouraged Andy. It took me 15 years to find my first Indian Head Penny. I found a V nickel, war nickel, buffalo nickel, and Indian Head penny all in the same day. I was really floored at how lucky I was that day.

homebre, I run the discrimination just past the all metal mode when relic hunting. I want to dig iron artifacts but not the little pieces of wire that I find in fields.

When coin hunting an iron infested field, I set the disc. at the first notch below nickel and sens. just under 10. Most iron targets seem to give a high pitched signal.
