Vaquero Question

2 Much Trash

Well-known member
I know the Vaquero's optimum operating temperature range is 30 to 100 degrees. But has anyone hunted with the V when its colder than 30. If so did it still function? Silly question I know.

I've hunted in the frost a couple times with my C with no noticeable change. Never had it below 30 though. My cheapy pinpointer is another story. Not a silly Q at all.

I don't know about my "V", but I do know I don't work well below 30 degrees.

I have used mine when the WIND CHILL was that cold or more. It didnt seem to bother it. But how can you tell if it does?

Denis

I hunted at the start of a blizzard a few weeks ago. Short season around here. Hunt when you can.15 degrees and wind blew my rain/dust cover off. The V was fine. Thumbing the Disc got hard as the dirt froze on the knob.Snow started to pile up and had to quit. Found a gold ear ring, some clad and a weird as yet unidentified token. Also found a .270 bullet. In a school playground!

I'm not sure Denis. That's kinda why I posted the question. I've not read any info or heard any conversation on how detectors perform (not just the Vaquero) when it's being used outside of it's optimum temperature range. It's just a curious question. There are units out there that state optimum operating temperature range from 15 degrees to 115 degrees. The V is 30 to 100. I've been detecting for a lot of years and have never concerned myself with this subject. I've hunted in weather in the 20's, not in open fields, they're most always frozen, but in the woods where the ground is sheltered somewhat, and have not experienced any operational problems. So what happens if I go detecting when the temp is below 30. :help:

I had both the Vaq and the silver out at -25 celcius, don't know what that is in farenheit, but it was cold. The silver I had out at -30 celcius once. The Vaq was worse than the silver. the silver would last for close to an hour on a fresh battery, while the V would sometimes shut down after only 15mins. I was using the detectors to search for lost machine parts in the snow. The cold didn't hurt the detectors at all, it is just that the batteries get too cold to function well - they freeze up. Just have to warm them up and they work good again.

You hit the nail on the head thump7..............the weakest link is the battery in cold temps. 2 Much Trash, look into other batteries like Lithium & a few others, see what there operating periminaters (temps) are. Might give you alturnatives in MDing in cold temps.

the kids these day eh!!

Put a 9v lithium colder battery in and go out, should not have any issues, keep out of the snow..lol

When hunting in the winter I keep the battery warm by having it in a pocket next to my body until i am ready to hunt as temperature effects performance. I am also careful to avoid impacts to the detector as the plastic parts are more brittle in icy temps. Sliding hills are a great place to do winter detecting and my Vaquero works in the freezing temps .

Dears,
I am pretty out of idea what is a reality. Vaquero has a function FIX Ground balance? I catch this info in pages of any dealers, maybe it is a joke just. I know, I heard about UK version of Tejon only, Tejon PRO has any fixing for ground balance for AM mode, but I have no idea what I can do it and how it will working in principle, if it would possible, for Vaquero. What is a benefit?

Any advice or notes, please.

Thanks
