Vaquero Pin Pointer Use?

nad

New member
I am going to have the potentiometer changed that determines ground balance....New ten turn pot will go where pin point button is now..To keep the pin point feature, a trigger can be incorporated..Here is the question since I've never used the button in the field...Do you use this feature? Can it be disposed of? Advantages / Disadvantages? I don't really have that much time on the "V", and may still be like the gal that used the choke knob to hang her purse on, not using everything properly ..So before I say "remove", or "keep", I would like the benefit of your experience,..Thank you so very much, Nad

I never use my pinpoint button to locate targets, but I do use it when checking and adjusting ground balance and threshold settings.
It is easier and faster than turning the disc. knob to all metal to perform this task.
That way I don't have to keep resetting my disc. setting each time I ground balance where the ground changes.
Having gloves on also makes this easier since there is less chance of accidently moving another knob while adjusting the disc. knob back and forth.

My vote is to keep the pinpoint with a switch you can reach like a trigger without moving your hand from the handle.

I've got the Cibola ... at first I super tuned and did not use the pinpoint. Dug too much big deep iron in supertuned.

Started to not super tune and learned to really appreciate what the pinpoint mode tells me about size, depth, composition (like a really high pitched pinpoint is most likely either a big target at the surface or is aluminum and I can raise the coil to add more information about depth).

Also, in pinpoint I hit the target all the time within the width of the digger, one small hole or flap. Without using the pinoint and only Xing I frequently had to widen the hole to find it. Bigger hole is not a problem in tot lots or beach, but when the digging is hard I don't like to move more dirt or cut more grass roots than absolutely necessary to get to the target.
