Vaquero or Tejon

For you Tesoro users that have had both, which do you prefer and why? These are the 2 I'm considering due to being able to ground balance. I am mostly a coin/jewelry hunter in Pa.. I think I'd prefer the Tejon for the dual discrimination and trigger functions but have heard it's noisier than the Vaquero and don't know how much the difference in frequency would matter.

The difference in freq wouldnt matter all too much. Ive had both uni's and for mostly coin and jewelry Id just go with the V ..... its lighter, and cheaper on batteries. The dual disc on the T is nice as is the tone selection, but you can "thumb" the disc of the V and see where the target drops off. Both are great Uni's, good luck.

I use the vaquero and hunted with a guy that used the tejon. Depth wize was little or no difference that I could notice, the Tejon has some feature I would love to have on the Vaq like the dual disc. the biggest difference I noticed was that the Tejon was nearly useless in the AM mode because the threshold just wouldn't stay at a steady humm, making it hard to discern a target from a fluctuating threshold at times. Most people don't hunt in AM mode anyways. The Tejon will find the deeper iron. Both are great.

I'm 61 and don't live in a civil war location...I live in So. California (fairly new state). Since I don't hunt for relics often (and usually when I'm visiting in New Mexico, Texas, or Illinois) I went with the Vaquero for it's ease and light weight. Plus, I heard of the "chattering" that the Tejon can do....but....then I heard that by lowering the sensitivity a bit, that the chattering becomes controlled (of course, this was AFTER I had got the Vac...hmmmmmm!) but I'm totally satisfied by the Vac. If (and that's a big IF) I get the Tejon, don't look for me to be selling the Vaquero!

Tejon some days could throw it under a passing truck and the next day i am on one knee proposing it takes some mastering but wow it can kick some A$$ in the right places.

That's a hard call ! I think I find myself using the Vaquero more often. I think it's the Vaquero's light weight. I only have to carry a 9v battery as backup, instead of the 8 AA. Both are excellent detectors!

I have to agree, my Vaquero is my park and dry sand machine, love it. Light and cheap to run.
