Vaquero or Tejon ???

Mark

New member
Hi Guys

I think I will make the switch from Fisher to Tesoro.

Really unhappy with Fisher machines and their customer service.

Anyway, I have my eye on the Vaquero and the Tejon. Any MAJOR difference between the two?? I will be looking for Coins/Jewelry only.

I just want a nice, simple detector, no bells and whistles, but must be fairly deep. Is it worth the extra cash for the Tejon??

Thanks for your help guys!!!

Mark

Mark,

If you have some experience with single tone high gain relic machines then I say go for the Tejon. Personally having that kind of experience (but not with the Tejon) I would opt for the Vaquero.

Why? High gain, hi freq machines are not the best for typical coin hunting situations IMHO. They tend to be very noisy in trash unless you use a lot of disc and contrary to popular belief high disc will lose a lot of that extra depth they are capable of especially in more mineralized soil. Go with the Vaquero, the 14 Khz frequency is much closer to the ideal 10-12Khz that many agree is "best" for general applications. From what I have gathered the disc is smoother and quieter and more easily ran at low settings when you are after the gold jewelry.

I'm sure some will disagree with my statements but like I said it's just my humble opinion.

Hey Mark, I'm assuming you are aware of the features difference between the two detectors, so I won't go into that. By design, the Tejon has more gain which should mean a slight bit more depth possible. I've personally owned and seen where each could beat the other with the given two specimens at the time. With that in mind, my advice would be to go to a well stocked Tesoro dealer and try each and even several of each if possible. This way based on your personal observations, you know for sure you're getting a good, and hopefully even "hot" specimen of whichever of the two you decide. Now, how much you want for that "junk" Fisher? :D

Thanks for the input guys!!

I think I will go the Vaquero route.

Will keep you up to date on any finds.

Thanks again, all the best

Mark
