vaquero or cibola

I know I have yet to get the hang of using my Compadre but in the spring I may be coming into some money and am looking to get either a Cibola or Vaquero. Which one is better? I know the Vaq has manual ground balance. But other than that is there a difference?

I've never owned a Cibola so I'm not qualified to answer if that is the only difference . I do know that in my varying soil conditions an adjustable ground balance makes a big difference . The Vaquero is very easy to get a good ground balance on .

I have used the cibola if I remember right , it does not have an all metal like the VAQ the ground balance is a big plus i would recommend it over the cibola I had some trouble in my ground with the cibola but I liked it , liked the coil very good machine , in the end i wanted something with a ground balance, from the videos i have seen the vaq is not to badd on high conductors, I just traded for a vaq so in time I can say more if your ground is mild go with the cibola but it sure is nice to have an all metal and a ground balance. it makes a difference , you could put a ground balance on the cibola but then your warranty is gone .

The cibola has a all metal mode,. i have had one for several years but spend the extra and get ground balance . i have had good luck with the cibola in spots but my ground has lots of granite and quartz rock, i would get the vaquero if i had it to do again.

I have the Cibola and it does very well in the soil conditions that I have here in La. I use it with both the stock coil and the 5.75 when I get in a really trashy area or around fences and play ground equipment. I've found metal objects with the stock coil that were darn near impossible to find without my pinpointer. Just a thought and the reason I went with the Cibola over the Vaquero is that if I was off on my ground balancing then I'd be worse off than having a fixed gb all the time, which is why my other two machines both have a auto gb feature :) Hope this helps.

IMHO if a person is going to have only one detector it should have either true auto ground tracking or manually adjustable ground balance for the areas that it's needed.

Words of wisdom. It's nice to know that your detector can handle any ground, no matter where you travel to detect with it.

For my mild soil the Cibola would work really well. My area is mild and consistent. For example when I ground balance my Tiger Shark from one park to the next, I hardly ever have to touch the ground balance, and if I do it is very little. The answer to your question depends on the type of ground you have. You can do a ground balance mod to the Vaquero and rumor has it that with mod done it is deeper than the Vaq. They are not identical detectors, I have read that the Cibola has a different program chip in it and that disc acts slightly different thatn the Vaq.

I heard they were exactly the same except for the ground balance on the vaquero is manual, the deepest i have found anything was 2 brass rifle cassing at about 9 inches with the cibola.

Nope the chips are different. Sven can verify this. They are supposed to act a little different in discrimination.

I am no expert ,just going by what others say. but the cibola is a good unit. i really like the weight of it but if i was doing it over i would get vaq. I have dug alot of holes that i couldn't find nothing but it would still ring out.
