Vaquero or Cibola???

phil....

New member
Hi Tesoro users and I have a question and a bit of a dilemma.

Its whether to get the Cibola or the Vaquero (Laser Trident I or II in the UK) so to those who got the Cibola, do you ever feel at any time you should have got the Vaquero and its manual ground balance, have you ever felt the ground balance has not so much let you down but maybe held you back a little or do you feel the simplicity of one less knob and one less thing to knock is the way forward for you and in the real world hasn

Hi Phil, I have the Cibola, and the Vaquero's older brother, the Eldorado, which has the same features as the Vaq., but runs on 10 kHz, not 14 kHz. If you will be hunting in all sorts of places with differing ground conditions, it would make sense to get the Vaquero...having said that, the Cibola does perform very well in varying conditions, and does very well on salt water beaches. However, I am sure that my Eldorado does go deeper than the Cibola, and I take it to the beach in preference to the Cibola....having said that, taking out the Cibola is simplicity itself, and you dont have to worry about getting the ground balance "just right". I think I understand your dilemma.....If you can only afford one, I would go for the Vaquero. Good luck. HH

The Vaquero is worth the extra cost over the Cibola. After using both machines, the Vaquero is the clear winner in performance. I had problems with my Cibola losing targets in the plug after I had dug it up....even coins an inch from the bottom of the plug would give mixed signals. The problem was the
factory preset ground balance being set either to negative or positive for my ground I believe. The Vaquero bangs hard on coins and especially nickels. Spend the extra money and get the manual ground balance....you will be happier in the long run. HH...........

.I swing a Vaquero as my main machine, and the fact that it has a manual ground balance is not small part of why I chose it. With manual ground balance I feel I have my fingers on the situation. I have two other machines, one with automatic ground balance and the other with pre-set ground balance, and they are fine for certain applications but when push comes to shove I want my Vaquero in my hands. If your ground balance if off there's no telling what sort of depth you are getting but I assure you its not good.

Well that sounds like a fairly conclusive answer, the Vaquero it is!

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your input on this, looks like I will be ordering this next week, thank you and will let you know how I get on with the new machine in the future.

Regards

Phil

Looks like you made your decision and I believe you will not regret it.
The Vaquero is very easy to ground balance and it is worth taking the time to do it properly which takes only seconds.
I have a Vaquero and had a Cibola for a short time and although it did find targets, I feel like the ground balance on the Vaquero left the guess work out as far as if the machine is working to its full potential.

I own a Cibola, and I am happy with it, for the extra bit of money if you can afford it buy a Vaquero as you will have the advantage of manual ground balance.

Well, that' an easy one.

The Trident II is the right answer.

For an obvious reason...:It offers the choice between FIXED ground balance (you drive a cibola) or a manual ground balance (you're in command of a vaquero).

So don't hesitate. ! Two etectors in one.

Plus the manual GB setting much more simple to adjust than the one on the Vaquero, ( Trident offers manual GB ajustable within 3/4 turn).

Hi Nick

So the Vaquero isn't quite the same as the Trident II, I hadn't realised that, I thought they were the identical machine.

Where I am I have the option of either so will have a look but the Vaquero does seem to work out a little cheaper (not a lot) than the Trident II for some reason, so maybe the mods account for the difference in price?

Thanks

Phil

I had a 'V' but sold it and bought a 'C'.I'm more of a turn-on-and-go detectorist. You really don't need manual ground balance unless you're hunting on black sand.I would advise getting the cibola.

Hi Mark and thanks for the advice, I know what you mean about the turn on and go with no worries about the GB, I had similar thought to you but didn't want to get something and end up changing in six months so have now decided to go with the Vaquero. Some of the conditions can be quite difficult locally and I would always be thinking, what am I missing!

Next decision is where to get it from!

Decisions decisions......

Thanks

Phil

Phil, Check with Richard at Backwoods Detector Sales for your Vaquero. He will take care of you and he is a nice guy to deal with.

Hi Joe, would love to deal with Backwoods but I am between the UK and Spain at the moment and Backwoods don't export to Europe.

There are a few dealers to chose from, just have to work out the best deal and which currency to buy in, looking like Spain in euro's at the moment.

Thanks for the advice

Phil

Phil, some of my greatest finds were found with the cibola. Here in west virginia we have moderate ground cond.,so the cibola is not affected by bad ground.I dug a minnie ball in my front yard with it and it was a good 9 inches down.Don't single out the cibola until you've given it a little more thought.

Most excellent!!! Enjoy your new Vaquero and lots of happy hunting to ya!!

good luck with your new Vaquero...... you are gonna love it!

Hi and just wanted to thank everyone and say the Vaquero is everything I had hoped it would be.

Went out to the beach this morning for a couple of hours and didn't do too bad, spendable amounts to around 8 euro plus some unknowns needing a bit of a clean and a silver ring, wow this thing goes deep!

Thanks

Phil
