Vaquero mod - depth !!!

Something that has been on my mind for a while now. In discriminate mode the sensitivity can be adjusted from min to max, the All-Metal mode however has a preset sensitivity. I'm pretty sure the preset is close or at least 3/4 of the way to max range. I have heard that on some of the older tesoros the sensitivity knob would work in both the disc and AM mode. The advantage would be more gain for tiny objects and I imagine the machine would have more depth as well.
So, wondering if anyone has modded a Vaquero to have an adjustable sensitivity setting in the AM mode? Or if not, for those of you that are familiar with tesoro electronics, How easy would this be to do?

I think your thoughts are good, I just think if it was easy or possible to do what your asking why wouldn't tesoro have done it? They would sell more metal detectors?

If what I know about Tesoro is true, they have done it in the past on other models. It is something they stopped doing about the time the the 'new' models were introduced.
Possibly to make it more user friendly?

I'm not sure you need more depth as far as the Vaquero goes. In disc mode it can hit a dime, solid, at 7 inches (this is with threshhold at the 3 o'clock position) and up to 12" in all metal. On larger targets. . . The only thing I'd like on the "V" might be VDI and depth in a small LCD display. That would be one sweet md!

Maybe with the H.O.T. models (Cibola, Vaquero, Tejon), the fact that the gain is higher means that having the sensitivity any higher the 3/4s you noticed would make the machine unstable. This is just a guess but it could be they had to adjust that from earlier models to keep it stable when running in AM.

Hi Canewrap, what you said is probably right on, as from the beginning it was voiced of the particular differences in the T and V was the fact that the T had it's Gain cranked so high as to make it borderline quirky, or, some would say unstable and causing the T to be a bit erratic and difficult in getting a steady threshold. V was smoother because Gain was not cranked so high. Actually makes sense as we all know some like to push their machines to the max and some are content, and prefere a smoother setup. Choice is ours and Tesoro put both out there for us. I don't remember, but I "think" that may be part of the reason the Troy X5's had to be returned for readjustment as their original gain was set a bit high and had some folks complaining of it being a problem. I also do remember reading that some few prefered the X5 with it not re adjusted. That may have been because they too wanted that extra whatever they were getting from the higher gain,or whatever, if that is what it was.Just my thoughts and as far as depth differences between the Tand the V, I would argue the V to be deeper on silver and the T deper on copper and brass so there is another choice to be made. I think I read lately where the freq. doesn't actually have that much to do with that(that's another discussion of course) so maybe it is all about Gain.I sure would not be voiding my warranty on one machine when all I had to do was choose it's brother in order to have the benefits of some "hopeful" questionable mod. The V has a very fast audio re-tune as I understand it, that makes it that much more stable. It speaks what the ground is saying 'now' where as the T reads the ground and drowns the signal on. For this reason I think the V could handle a higher sens setting in the am mode. I could be wrong but I'll never know till I try it.
