vaquero lake hunt II

Took my Vaquero back to the lake camp ground today and went over the area that I had previously searched with my Garrett and V. Was only able to hunt about an hour and a half before it started raining but the site produced two more silvers. The two silver coins and the nickel were in the same hole by a tree root. Some how I missed them on my previous two trips although I know I searched around the tree.
What I am learning about the Vaquero is you want to check your target with the pinpoint. I can usually tell a trash target that way. Coins have a soft tone where the trash is a sharp ringing tone. I believe someone mentioned you should use the pinpoint in an earlier post and they were right.

Looks like a great hunt!

Nice haul Kansa!!!
Thanks for the tip on the pinpoint button. I'm still unsure about it on my Cibola.

two silvers thats great , two good things about the VAQ its hot on small things & its deep

That's a nice haul!

Nice going on the silvers! For sure, vco is king, i know i wouldn't ever want to go without it.

Nice haul. Were you hunting in all metal or DISC? When you said you were hunting previously with a Garret and V., were you talking about the propointer and Vaquero?
Thanks

I was hunting in disc mode with sensitivity at max and disc set to allow zinc. The threshold was at the zero on Tesoro. I had previously hunted the spot with a Garrett 1500 and a week later with my vaquero. Both previous hunts netted silver, wheats and clad. I dug less trash with the Garrett but the coin count was almost identical.

Thanks for the tip on the pinpoint Kansa54. I'll have to try that. I usually run the V supertuned, so don't use the pinpoint button much. Nice finds BTW

I hunt in super tune mode occassionly but not all the time. If I get a signal when super tuned I will usually turn down threshold and check it with the pin point before digging.
I like to hunt old homesteads that are now being used for agriculture. These sites are usually littered with iron and you're wasting time if you try to hunt these sites when supertuned. I set my sens. around 8, disc. below nickel and threshold down low. I'm not trying to hit any deep coins due to all the iron. I figure the next time the ground is worked, more coins will come up shallow. When pinpointing I can usually tell coins from iron.

i have only been detecting a week now. for my first MD, i bought the vaquero. i am finding out too that the tone of the pinpoint can tell you something. a shallow aluminum can will put out a very high tone. something the you tube vids and manual dont tell you.

I almost always hit the pinpoint button. It only takes a second and gives a lot of info.

Nice doubling up on the silver.

Nice finds with the Vaq. I have on park I have taken over 200 coins out of last summer. Everytime I went back to areas I hunted, I always found coins that I had missed.

I rarely use my pin point feature, sounds like I need to rethink that...any tips on what I should or could be doing?? I generally hunt in disc set at around the 10:00 position. I did a test with some low conductivity gold rings and they just begin to disc out around 10:15 - 10:30, I notice too they V hits hard on nickels.
