Vaquero Ground Balance Issue ...

Having trouble with my Vaquero , when I turn the ground balance knob either way when Ground Balancing it screams at full volume until I stop turning the control, before there was silence whilst turning GB , but not now, it still ground balances but the noise is so loud it attracts attention and is way annoying ! At first I though it was at the end of turns ie: gone to far one way on GB control but not the case .....anyone had this happen and if so .... please help .

Where have you got your threshold setting? Barely audible should be where that's set. Is there any EMI sources close by this could cause it. Also change your battery. These are the only things I can think of.

My Vaquero, Tejon and Cibola, and Bandido II µMax don't make the loud squawking noisy when turning the ground balance knob, but my Outlaw does and so did all of my Eldorado detectors. I read or heard somewhere that's normal on some Tesoro detectors. Other than the noisy it doesn't affect performance. I never did find out why some do and some don't. I wonder what made yours start doing it when it didn't before.

I made this same post when my Vaquero was new. It sounded like a baby calf separated from its mother. It doesnt do it anymore. I dont know if the machine got better or if I got better.

Make "absolutely" sure the spot you are balancing is free of metal. Set the threshold to where it is just humming at about waist high .Slowly bob the coil up and down about 12 inches and adjust the gb accordingly. Make small adjustments on the dial.

I know exactly what you are talking about. The machine just howls . Its important to be sure there is no metal on that spot .

My Vaquero screams too and someone mentioned to just turn the knob a tad at a time while "Not" pumping up and down .... let go of the knob and then start pumping and it works fine for me like that

I just went out and checked mine. It screams when I turn the GB negative. Like Joe Z says . I turn the knob a little at a time while it is motionless "not pumping" and about a foot above the ground , then lower it and listen .

Hatpin, I use the same method as you said and have no problems. The key is not to turn the knob while moving the coil and move it a small amount.

I know the owners manual says to pump it while adjusting the GB but if you talk to Rusty at Tesoro you'll get an ear full about wasting your time. Also according to Rusty, you shouldnt have to adjust the GB knob more than a quarter turn if you left the US and traveled halfway around the world to Australia. I used to have those same issues with my Vac. It was frustrating, that's why I called Rusty. After that I pulled the GB knob and put a thick O ring under it so I couldn't turn the knob so easy. Good luck.

Any update on your problem???

Nothing has changed , tried all suggestions , think I will send query to Tesoro , seeing that it was totally silent before there has to be an answer ???? To Be Continu.e.......

Don't email. Call. They are bad about returning emails.

Try power balancing. I cant find my link , somebody else might have it saved. You do it in disc mode and the detector wont scream .

wind the GB 5 turns to neg then 2 back positive and you will be real close, bob the coil till a beep is gone on the up lift and your ready to go that's what I do anyway. min disc 10 sens, thres 1 or 2 oclock

Zone, sure wish one of us here could get our hands on your detector or see you face to face. Hopefully there is an easy, simple fix for your problem.
I'm sure it is expensive to call from Australia and Rusty is a talker but, unless you have an authorized repair center somewhere in your country I don't see much of an option other than to call or just pack it up and send it in.
Its frustrating that a company with an internet presence can't use today's technology to communicate with its loyal customers.
Best of luck,mate.

Agreed. ... .call. When GB using all metal with disc off, my Vaq does the same thing. Probably didn't notice this previously because I GB while disc is on, so it's quiet when GB is rotated. I then push pinpoint, pump, check the settings, and tweak if necessary by repeating the process.
