Vaquero finds a few coins today

I found a few coins at the old picnic grove this afternoon. The ground was moist from the rains we had recently and targets sounded much better. I found 3 indian head pennies, 1880, 1883, and 1887. Found a 1911 V nickel, 1934 mercury dime, 1900 barber dime, a childs toy rocking horse,
a 1930 Illinois Chauffeurs badge, and a 1921 Filipinas 20 Centavos made of silver. I drove on to the Old Settlers site and hunted the cornfield again where an old homesite used to be. The rains had washed out broken glass and pieces of brick and foundation stones. I found an 1851 large cent
and a few pieces of iron trash in the field. Pretty decent day weatherwise and it was nice to find some silver..........HH

Nice finds. Did you know about this old site from before? How deep were some of those finds? Was it the standard 6 to 7" or were any of them close to the surface or deeper?

pkrska, yes, I knew there had been a house in this field from looking at a1874 map from an atlas. The large cent came from a tilled field and was maybe 5 inches deep. Everything else was found in a picnic grove that does not get tilled and most were between 6 and 8 inches deep........HH
