at the moment i'm running the vaquero with a 11"widescan coil, hunting in parks and beachs.i'm finding a lot of goodies, however reading a lot of posts about how good the original stock coil is,is it.i couldn't pin point it very well.you all will say practice, practice.well i did! the widescans easy, heel or toe.what i am really curios about is whether the 8"by 9" is a better detector coil on coins and jewellery than the widescan.i know one is going to be slower than the other.but is the stock coil more thorough.do i only use the widescan on the beachs and the 8" by9" in parks and such.hoping you all will put your two bits in.many of you will have time to contemplate this small dilemma as possibly the groundhog hasn't come out of it's winter nest yet.hh. see ya! blowfly

Hmmm. I never had any trouble pinpointing with the stock 9x8 coil. I simply "x" the target and it was always right in the small hole in the center of the coil. I actuall find it harder to pinpoint with a "dd" coil. I am not sure which would be "better", moreover which one works the best for you is the one to use. good luck

Get you some coins and a few nails. Lay them close to one another and see which one handles the masking issue better. Sweep both directions. I'm betting on the concentric.

I bought the DD coil when I fist got my vaquero 3 years ago. I thought i would love it. However, after the first few months I began to gradually go back to the stock coil, now thats all I use. I had difficulty pinpoint with the DD and I would say depth appeared to be not as good. Also, I live in a low mineralization area, so that didnt factor in
