Vaquero coils and pinpointer

New member
Greetings,
I have used an Explorer II with the Sun Ray probe for some time but have recently purchased a Vaquero, wanting a simpler, more "stable" machine. In any event, there are two issues I am facing in the transition between detectors, and I would sure appreciate any input from others who know the Vaquero.
1) What is the performance like for the Tesoro widescan (double D) coils? I am especially interested (as someone else posted a few days ago) in info on the performance of the 12x10 widescan coil. I ask this question, because I am used to pinpointing with a double D coil, and I am having a hard time trying to adjust to pinpointing with the stock Tesoro 9x8 coil.
2) What is a really good probe that actually can give depth? I have been spoiled with my SunRay probe and I sure do miss it! I have a probe that came free from Kellyco. It works fine for the dirt that is out of the hole, but you have to practically touch the target for it to sound. I miss the depth of the SunRay. What do Tesoro detectorists use? (Will SunRay ever do a probe for the Tesoro line?)

Thanks,
Mathew Hinkle

Hey Matt, Try the "vibra-probe 560" go with a brand new one. About 99 bucks. I think it's the best thing next to a SUNRAY PROBE. There are other probes but either thier too crapy or too expensive. Plus the vibra-probe is water proof and is very durable. Then once Ralph Sunray produces the 'inline probe' for the tesoro model's you can sell the vibra-probe (good resale value) and bbuy the Sunray probe.
Hope this helps. Rusty, Chicago
