Vaquero / Cibola ground balance question

New member
I read somewhere that if you adjust the Vaquero 3 1/2 turn ground balance EXACTLY to the middle, that this is the same place that the preset ground balance on the Cibola is. Anyone know if this is true? If you set it there and leave it, would you essentially be getting the same performance as the Cibola? To me that would be a reason to purchase a Vaquero over a Cibola for those concerned about the manual ground balance feature and if it's necessary or not for their soil conditions.

Mike, so ferrite is where the preset of the cibola is? I actually own a tejon, so you're saying that if I turn GB 1/2 turn back from all the way clockwise then I'll be at ferrite?

Thanks,

ian

Yes thats about where mine is about 3/4 to 1/2 back. I got a ferite ring from Whites a while back and use it. Get one from a dealer or maby Tesoro has one. Just a chunk of ferite will work from electrical parts and so on.

take some of your fav. coins....pennies, dimes, nickels and a big ol' silver dollar....and pass them under your coil. If you have your settings skewed too far one way or the other, you may not like your results. It seems like going out and ground balancing your detector in your typical soil, the leaving it there would be the safest way to go.

ps. Detector guru Monte showed me what will happen if your detector is too positive(I think it was positive:blush:)...a silver dollar will disappear.

Very interesting information.

thanks for the info. I will set it to my usual park and then leave it. I gotta get some orings so that the dials don't turn too like people say they do.
