Vaquero back from Rusty

Got my V back from Rusty. I sent it in with the 9x8 stock coil because I was disappointed in the depth I was getting. He said the coil was out of tune and fixed it up for me. I also purchased a 5.75 concentric coil just to try something different. I haven't really tested the returned 8x9 coil yet but on first try in my field where I but a minnieball in a 8" hole, I could detect it in all metal but not in DISC. As Rusty pointed out to me, this isn't a real life situation as the bullet had not lain in the ground for any length of time, So today I took the 5.75 on its maiden run to try a few spots I have hit in the past: high school grassy area, middle school grassy area, and a church retreat area. I planned on only staying out an hour since it was hot and dry, but I had a lot of fun and found a bunch of clad and a boy scout tie clasp (?). Anyway I wanted to just see how the coil worked. I was not going for depth but was hopping to find jewelry, so I set the disc very high past, a notch or two past TAB and dug all good signals. The pix showed what I found less about 2 pull tabs and a little bit of foil. I was impressed with the DISC and the clarity of the signal. Again, I was going for depth since I don't want to dig big holes at schools and parks. This week I might make it to a CW site where I will use the 9x8 coil and maybe my 10x12 SEF. Some of the odd shaped-pieces of metal were found in a gravel parking lot. Might be melted metal of some kind that didn't DISC out.

Nice haul, I know what you are saying about not wanting to dig deep holes at the school , you know its funny what those kids will loose in a school yard, you may make a great find , you never would imagine, Glad the V is working better , Good to have Rusty around , he is a pillar of support

I know--I was increasing my odds on finding silver without digging trash. gold is rare!!! So I feel I didn't miss anything--especially at rural schools.

Glad your detector is back and working well, only trouble with knocking out to much junk like foil you also stand a good chance of knocking out silver as well,i can only speak from detecting here in the UK but if we knock out foil we can also loose out on finding our old silver hammered coins as they both come in the same on a detector. Its the risk you take of course but i tend to run as litte or even zero discrimination solely for that reason.

May be Tesoro's are different than other detectors but if you discriminate any silver you have no chance for gold because it is lower conductivity. I am confused.

You are correct. I was willing to skip finding gold because the odds are poor. I just wanted to see what I would find quickly without digging foil and pull tabs since the sites were mostly schools. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

I had to send my vaquero in to Rusty. The ground balance was not working right. He said he would go through everything to make sure it is working good... KEN. Ind.
