when i used my old ace 250 in tot lots ,if i didn't have my sniper coil on, i could still get up close to the steel work and find targets.i would turn my coil at an angle away from the post, max the sencitivity, press and hold the pin point to find any targets. i tried that with my new vaquero this morning in a tots lot,it said i'm not a garret.after reading a post by tabdog, was he using a smaller coil or some other trick. now i relise i'm the new kid on the block and io have a lot to learn yet. i haven't blitzed any areas yet but i'm getting there .i found the instructions in the book easy to understand and had the machine up and running fairly quickly and found coins in the backyard where the 250 said was clean mmmmm ,me thinks i'll have to revisit some my old hunting sites. blowfly.:detecting:

One thing I have found is that the new hot coils have flux lines that extend beyond the coil edges. All coils do to some extent. This makes it hard to hunt next to a big piece of metal and also makes it harder to locate a deep coin laying next to a dig piece of trash. But it also adds depth. By what you just posted tells me you are having results similar to what I've had. I'm wondering if a 5.75" widescan coil with a narrow footprint would be for this application.

I have the 5.75 coil for the V and just turn down the sens around poles. It isnt a "magic zone," up close to a pole, it may or may not have anything to find. But you cant get there unless you turn it down.
