Vaquero And Eldorado UMax Question.

I have been useing the Eldorado UMax now for several years and the past 10 days I was able to use the Vaquero. I enjoy surface hunting, surface to 5", and except for the pin point mode on the Vaquero, I was not able to tell one from the other while in the field...Am I right or am I missing something.

It's hard for me to decide between those two.

I like the way my Eldorado 'talks' to me. It seems to have more info in its tone. It's difficult to explain. I also prefer the switch over the pinpoint button, because it allows me to switch over and hunt in all metal or flip back to the discrimination mode without having to reset my discrimination setting every time.

On the other hand, The threshold on my Vaquero is more stable and it works smoother in the all metal mode than my Eldorado does. The smoother threshold also makes ground balancing easier. The Vaquero seems to be finding smaller targets and is around an inch and half to two inches deeper than my Eldorado. The older Eldorado may be out of tune and that could be what's causing the depth difference. I don't know.

I do know when I sent my Golden uMax to Tesoro, it came back a good 2 inches deeper. I guess that I need to call Robert and Rusty and see what they think and recommend. I love all my Tesoro detectors, but having 5 of them at one time is a little much and I want try some more Tesoro detectors out as well. But which Tesoros can I live without?

Man tab, I wish I had your problem..5 tesoros, I only have 3.

The Eldorado is more stable then the three different Vaquero's I have owned. I would pick an Eldorado over a Vaquero every time. For fun look into Tesoro Euro Sabre which runs at the same frequency and is similar to the Eldorado, except for its Iron rejection and low iron producing tone. It's the cats pajamas.

Tab I would get a check up done on your EL Dorado because I get the same or better depth then my Vaq. (which I let my cousin and nephew use when hunting with me) on about every hunt. I might also add my Vaq. chatters a tad more in the soil I hunt but Tab is deadon when he says the Vaq. is better in all metal (threshold wise) because my El Dorado screaches like a Alley Cat in heat when ground balancing and hunting sometimes VERY ANNOYING.
