two months ago i asked a question, tabdog responded, but he didn't really answer the question.what i wanted to know was,if i put a 5.75"coil on my vaquero?is it going to find more good stuff in trashy grounds than my compadre which is all ready fitted with this coil ?or does gb on the vaquero make it better,if so i may as well sell the compadre and buy the little coil. hh, see ya ! blowfly

Just my opinion, but I think you would be better off with the Vaquero and the small coil vs. the Compadre detector.
My way of thinking is you have more adjustments on the V since you not only have adjustable ground balance, but you also can adjust the sensitivity control to suit the conditions.
I'm not sure how the sensitivity is controlled on the Compadre, but if it is not adjustable, you are limited on your options.
What I'm getting at is that in really trashy areas, setting the sensitivity down will aid in finding good targets without picking up all the trash and excess chatter.
Hope this helps some.

I have a Compadre with the 5 3/4 inch coil and a Vaquero with the standard coil. I use both of them a lot and I don't see a lot of difference in how close you can get to metal poles and such. The Compadre does find items in a trashy area a little better than the V. I have dug Dimes at 6 inches with the Compadre and I don't think that you will get much better depth with the V and a 5 3/4 inch coil The only thing I don't like about the Compadre is you can not turn the sensitivity down. I also have a Silver Umax that I use very seldom and have thought about puttin a 5 3/4 coil on it. Bill in Texas

I have the 5.75 coil on my V. Will you find lses trash? Not really.
What you'll do is see less of it beneath your coil at any one time.

This means you can find stuff you might otherwise miss when an area is very trashy.

For what it's worth, the Compadre runs at full sensitivity, all metal until you move into the disc settings where it still is at full sensitivity. If you were asking this question as to picking up the 5 3/4 coil for the Vaq and did not have the Compadre with that combination, I'd say go for it. Being as you already have the Compadre and Vaq both, if it were me, I'd keep both (always good to have some sort of back up) and do just like you're doing. I'm thinking the Vaq might get a bit more depth with the 5 3/4 coil, but probably not enough to be worth the extra expense. The Compadre's are such gems for what they are, when you consider the cost of the 5 3/4 coil for the Vaq versus the cost of the Compadre which is a complete detector plus that size coil the cost to add that coil to your Vaq doesn't compute too well. My two bits.

you are right offcourse, barberbill.as always i was just curious.after reading so many raves about the little coil,i was wondering if i should buy one for the vaquero.i'll leave it as is and save a bit of money.hh,,see ya. blowfly

Hay Felix.

You don't need to turn tha sensativity down on tha

Compadre for trash. It is already ready there.

It will not pick up as much clutter as tha V, even if you

trun tha sensativity down on tha V.

That is one reason it works so well in trash.

I have heard of tha Compadre gettin a little crazy in bad

conditions, but have never experienced it myself.

Hay Blow Fly,

I keep tha 5.75 on my Vaquero. I like it better than tha stock coil.

There is trash and there is trash.

For the worst iron trashy sites I like my Euro Sabre or an Eldorado uMax
tha best. I don't have an Eldorado any more. I opted for tha Euro because
of tha "Iron ID" feature. It's a little nicer in tha iron trash.

Just normal extremely trashy parks, I like tha Compadre. Tot lots demand
tha Compadre, unless targets are too deep.

Normal trash and most other huntin, I like tha Vaquero.

My Vaquero is being used a lot these days. I like it, but can never part with
my Speedy.

HH,

Tabdog

hey tabdog, when using the compadre do you ,sweep the coil over the previous sweep forward by a half coil or a third? i know i'm probaly being a little pedantic, but, i like to get it right and you are the one who would appear to have mastered mr. and mrs speedy.hh.see ya! blowfly:detecting:

You know, I don't know.

I will try to watch tomorrow and see.

I will measure a distance and count

tha swings it takes to cover that distance.

that will give me a chance to swing at a normal pace.

I'll let you know if I can remember to do it.

I'm so bad that if I tie a string on my finger, I can't

remember what tha string was for....lol

Tabdog
