Vaquero Air Tests

magadan

New member
Hello,

I have finally received my new Vaquero. It is snow outside, so I have started the air tests.
I was using the Sens = 10; Tresh = at 12-00; Disc - min; GB - 2 turns from the stop.

The V can see the modern dime from 6", clad cent from 7" and the nickel from 8".

Is it OK or not enough for the air testing?

Thank you

M

Not bad, but play with the thresh hold and see just where you begin to loose depth. I would start with thresh hold at 3:00 and incrementally back it down to 12:00. At some point you will notice a drop off in depth. Mark that spot as a minimum. This will allow you to gauge the depth by the diminishing tone/beep and still maintain max depth. Great MD you got there.

When relic hunting if I am useing the disc mode, I try not to set the sens below 10. Setting it above 10 will significantly increase depth by at least an inch or 3. The machine will also become more sensitive to smaller objects including gold. Some say air tests are worthless while others use them to make an usumption about a machine.
I believe air tests do have their place, but I never dig coins in the air.
My personal experience with tesoros and airtests is that airtests represent 95% of peak performance in the real world digging. I seldom dig coins as deep as the machine will airtest them out to be.
BUT, there are a few times where I have dug them a bit deeper too! In saturated gound of course.

Thank you for your reply! It is still winter in my place (Russian Far East), so I continue the air tests.

I am very much surprised that the Vaq is as sensitive to low-conductivity metals as to the high-conductivity ones (see the picture).

So, the thin Chinese bronze coin for the Vaq looks the same as a silver coin of similar diameter, but 3 times heavier... The same bronze coin in the Disc mode it can even see from a little bigger distance than a 3 oz chunk of pure copper... Strange..

Is it caused by the high frequency? It looks like the Vaq is not a true coin machine, especially in the areas where the people hunt for the silver & copper coins..
