Vaquero air test

I just got a Vaquero and did an air test . I also did one with my cibola and the cibola got two to three inches more in the air test. I did ground balance the vaquero before the test and I am wondering if I should be alarmed. I read the manual and watched the video from the tesoro web site on ground balancing so I am pretty sure I did it right . I did a quick hunt over a former hot spot in my yard . I hit it hard with the cibola and a friend hit it with his high end garret . The vaquero pulled a shot gun shell and a little trinket so that gave me hope but I just don't understand the poor performance in the air test. Any thoughts on this? Thanks much. :usaf:

First you must GB by turning the GB knob 5 times counter clock wise then 2 times clock wise.

My Vaquero air test a quarter at 14", 10k mens wedding band 15" in all metal mode.

You should get close to these numbers.

If you like I can post a complete chart I make on my own air test.

show max depth potential if the detector is set correctly. However, just because a machine gets great air distance doesn't always mean it does better in the ground.

Some detectors do a much better job at "seeing" the buried target. This is where quality comes in.

Tesoro detectors are excellent quality and if used correctly will generally produce more finds than most other detectors that may do better in air tests.

Hope this helps.

Thanks much, I am sure the detector is not at falt ,I will try it again today and see if can do a little better.

In the very beginning of your manual there is a section on comparing targets on a table top. There is a different setup when doing an air test.

Looked up my air test with the Vaquero, set to max boost and in all metal mode.

Penny and nickel--13 and 13 1/2"
Dime--12"
Quarter--14"
Half--15"
Silver Dollar--15 1/2"
10k thick gold wedding band--15 1/2"

Set to max boost and just clicked off of all metal mode.

Penny and nickel--11 and 11 1/2"
Dime--10 1/2"
Quarter--12"
Half--12 1/2"
Silver Dollar--13 1/2"
10k thick gold wedding band--12"

Set to max boost and disc one notch below nickel.

Penny and nickel--11"
Dime--10"
Quarter--11 1/2"
Half--12"
Silver Dollar--12 1/2"
10k thick gold wedding band--12"

with a 15-20% reduction for in ground you are about right for actual depth in moderate soil.

My Tejon easily detects a freshly buried clad or silver dime at 9 inches deep set on FOIL discrimination. At 10 inches it's a broken signal and very iffy.

With all-metal mode (I rarely ever use) it can signal a dime at 10 inches and begins to lose it at 11.

I wish they made a 14x12 concenteric relic coil for the Tejon.
