Vaquero 11x8 coil vs 8x9

JaWi.

Member
I have a Vaquero and wondering if I might see much benefit on the 11 x 8 over the stock coil. My soil is mild and I mostly hunt old coins.

seriously if you want a nice coil for old stuff in low trash go for an aftermarket coil I am really liking the mars coil on my whites machine but a NEL or Detech will do you a good job also.

Do a search on here for "11x8". Under search options, choose all dates. Plenty of opinions already posted you can spend a lot of time reading. The 11x8 made a huge difference for me. And DONOT use an air test, you'll think it's bad. Whether it is worth it to you, I believe you'll just have to try one.

Run away from the noname coils, a waste of money. Usually more expensive, heavier, and don't work as well. I broke the connector off my 11x8 soon after I got it, Tesoro fixed it for free.

I use the UK version of the Vaquero called the Laser Trident 11 Extreme its a real life Cazador rather than the Tesoro 'mythical' version  mine came with the 11x8 coil, its a nice coil and i would think more for open area's but thats just my opinion, never used the 9x8 but of course the main difference is one is a Concentric and the other is a DD or WS,both have good and bad points.

Regarding after market coils on detector i would say that the majority of my 40+ coils that i use are after market ones, they in my opinion preform the same or in many case 'better' that factory coils and often much cheaper as well, also i feel that i can buy specific coils for my sites that i detect on,.Of course its upto the individual detectorist on what coils they buy,the stock coil that comes with a detector is a general all round size coil and as a general rule they work well, but as soon as we get onto trashy sites then its a different ball game as is also when we get onto old pasture sites that the targets are just way deeper than what the stock coil can go.

only Tesoro coils I own with no name on them come from Tesoro :poke: and if I didn't know what they were for they would never get used because they are no name coils and could fit who knows what and come from who knows where is that what you mean by no name coils

all my after market coils have names on them and what machine they fit printed on them.

I doubt the Findmall server has enough space to clearly explain the differences of who owns, designs, and ships NEL coils and Cors coils....

You should add why you don't like Tesoro in your signature....

Hopefully not to open a can of worms here, but they are the same coils right? NEL and CORS?

Probably best to start another thread on NEL and CORS.

And be very cynical in the replies you receive.

i lean more to Detech and Mars coils , NEL are 3rd on the list for me the new Mars coils are very finely tuned and they have that X factor worth a try if you can get past your prejudice  maybe you might even enjoy them.

i bought the 11 x 8 for my vaquero. yes, it works well. but, i cant really say if i have found anything that i would not have with the 9 x 8. have not seen them side by side on the same target or changed coils on a hit to compare the two. i have got some nice stuff with the 9 x 8, its pretty deep also. as far as a drastic difference between the two, i would not get excited about it.

I never used the 11X8 but compared the 12X10 widescan to the 9x8 concentric and what really stood out was the target separation, like discing out iron and picking up coins or jewelry next to iron.....much better than the concentric. Target separation is not something that is only important in an area with a lot of trash. Since you cant see underground, you never know when your passing over a target because of masking.
I will take a widescan coil over a concentric anyday, any location.

Just ordered the Mars 10''x6'' Sniper coil for my UK Vaquero,it was alot cheaper than the Tesoro same size coil and i feel it will also perform as good as or even better and a much better build quality as well. Was not all that keen on the ultra long lead that is on most of the Tesoro elliptical coils it looks ugly and is not used in my site situations.

Done deal, should be here tomorrow for 1st outing on sunday all day.

How much did you get the coil for? The Tesoro one is only $100 or so.... if it's cheaper than that, I'm in!!!
Also where does a Yankee like me buy one? Lol

Can only quote UK prices, the Tesoro one is £130 and the Mars Sniper coil is £85,have not worked out what that is in US $ but as you can see a saving for basically the same size coil by a fair amount.

Jst done a quick conversion.

Tesoro coil is $168
Mars sniper is $110

@Stoof-tabsallday,Stefan,the prices for Tesoro coils are more expensive here than across the pond that i dont deny, but when you take into consideration that Tesoro/Laser the UK versions of your machines are a rarity, infact not popular machines what so ever, possibly for say every 500-1000 machines you may find the odd 1 or 2 old time users, everyone over here uses for the most part the XP Deus about 85% of machines used and CTX3030 the others.

In the 80s and 90s Tesoro machines had been very popular but as other makers have come on board they have made machines that suit our requirement better than most US machines, although the Ace250 is still the most popular starter machine mainly because of the cost and it also has a screen over say the same price Tesoro Compadre.

should come live here halfway to nowhere :punch: buy Mars from the UK although next one is coming from Ukraine or not to ship Tesoro's from the US that have to come the long way.

so the point is its expensive to get what you want here either way and then resale price is horrendous as the tight a$$ Aussies want stuff for free so buy and keep is the plan :poke: its a joke here which ever way you turn.

OK that makes sense for you guys.
For me here stateside, shipping is a factor.
I can get a Tesoro coil shipped for free, or a cors coil also shipped free.
I end up breaking even after shipping from another country and also shipping time.
I have a retailer in my state so I get free shipping and if I place my order in the morning it's at my house the next day.
So I understand for you guys it's different and I would definitely go with the Mars coil too in your situation.
In mine, I go with whatever us retailers have and also, which are closest. I'm impatient. So if I can get the Tesoro elliptical for 109 from Kellyco shipped free or from my home state retailer for 119 shipped, I'd go for my home state because it's here tomorrow and Kelly takes 3-4 days because of where they are located and their shipping service they use.
For me USPS first class which is almost the slowest still arrives next day from my home state realtailer because we are 150 miles away.

So there are many facets but I can definitely see on your side of the world the large difference in how you choose what to go with.

I have coils from all over the globe and 2 made here in good old AU from coiltek

I do not limit myself to one brand or company as time goes by I realise more and more that there is no one detector that finds it all and changing a coil brand on the same detector makes it a new machine imagine the fun to be had in the global market place

Not to hijack the thread, but if shipping costs were not so high I would love to get one of the Tesoros from the UK. I guess because they are different/not common here in the States but now we are able to get the black color scheme which looks great.
