Vaq in the box... Help!

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the tesoro forum I have been detecting since aug 09. Been using an ace 250. I bought a used Vaquero over the winter for $170. I had been reading this forum for a while and
couldn't resist buying it after reading all the great things about tesoro and how deep the Vaq is.

Anyway, I read the manual and took the vaquero out for a test run in the yard.I could not get a steady hum when adjusting the threshold it would hum and
when i tried to ground balance it would stop after the first or second pump of the coil. I wiggled the Threshold knob and hum woul come and go. Also
it would still pick up a pulltab with dicrimination all the way up but crack on pull tab.
Any suggestion?
Do you think tesoro would honor there waranty?

I love may 250 but have yet to find a silver coin. I think the Vaquero can change that.

Thanks, Epi

Change out the Batts. disconnect the coil and and reattach it. If there's still a problem try it at a different location. No detector I owned will operate properly in my yard
because it's built above a old UFO base. $170 is a steal. To good to be true? You might have to send it in.

If there's metal where you try to ground balance you move to where there is none and balance there.

And besides that, it's harder to troubleshoot what is going on with a detector when you don't have the machine in your hands. I don't have a Vaquero, but I have a small collection of older Tesoros, and once you get the hang of ground balancing one..............it's easy! I wonder how many detectors get sent in to Tesoro for repairs and there was nothing wrong with it? Just operator error you say? I bet it happens more often than you think. If you have anyone in your home town,a local metal detecting club, or some one that knows about ground balancing.........maybe they could help. Rather than a boring rewrite of the manual on how to ground balance there is a topic titled Tiger Shark Tips. It is down below on this page, and in my reply, I try to explain how to ground balance a Tiger Shark. I know the Vaquero is different than a Tiger Shark, but ground balance is explained pretty well in that post. Good luck.

Man for $170 even a broken Vaquero is a smoking deal.
If you cant get it working how you want it to just give Tesoro a call an send it in.
If you dont fell like its right for you i will give you $200 for it and you come out ahead...:clapping:
