Vanishing signals?

Lately I've been water hunting with my excaliber 11 and getting some good ring sounding targets. I miss the target on the 1st scoop never to be heard again. I tried all metal, digging additional deeper scoops, angling sweeps. Nothing. Can't get target signal back. What gives? Can anyone explain or offer a solution. It only happens on the low sounding targets, never the pulltabs or silver. Thanks!

This has happened to me many times. (Today). I found out what it is. I put my screen back in the bottom of my sand scoop and came up with little gold earring backings which fall out of the sand scoop because the wire mesh holes are to big.
Try this let me know if if works for you.

This is a common problem...especially in the surf and sometimes in the wetsand....here is a video tip that I did on that very subject....

If it is a low tone and disappears you can almost bet that it is a piece of old aluminum. This has a tendency to float away as you are digging. Not all rings produce a low tone with the Excal.

You start digging and you break up the halo effect on the item. Items that have been in the ground for a long time have that. You knock the item deeper in the hole and its beyond your detectors reach, keep digging!! As one person mentioned earlier its so small like an earring or a brass nut it goes through the holes in your scoop. And a very light aluminum pull-tab gives you the run for your money!! Especially the tab part, you can chase one for a long time, Sometimes old nails give a great signal only to die after you start digging.

What is GREAT about diving is you can see every one of these scenarios.

Good luck!!!
