Value of wheat penny - ?

Mirco

New member
Wheat pennies are mentioned here often as a desirable target.

I did not find one so far. But get them from time to time as change in supermarkets.
So, question is - how much are they really worth?

I've seen them listed in bulk onEbay for anywhere from 2-5cents and even more. Went to a flea market yesterday and saw a coin dealers table that was selling them for 15 cents. I believe the copper value is over 1 cent now.

Micro, I'm using NORTH AMERICAN COINS& PRICES, as besides U.S. coins, it also has Canadian and Mexico. "THE RED BOOK," though, is probably the most popular. BarberBill may right about the common date wheaties being worth more then 1 cent. Asking and getting a price, however, are two different things. HH jim tn

Just get a "red book". Wheat pennies are good to find because that means that the place is old enough to produce silver coins. As said above most wheat's aren't worth more than a few pennies, but a select few of them can fetch $100's of dollars a piece. Good luck and happy hunting...

I bought The Red Book! Cannot wait the receive it! Why there are different Red Books for 2009? With different names?
