Being that my true love is relic hunting I figured I'd take my 6000 Pro XL out for a spin in relicland. I didn't hunt but a couple of hours but still managed to save a few relics. I found a nice colt revolver gun tool and some lead. Thanks for looking and HH!! :)

Nice finds Scott

It looks like you are getting the hang of it with your new 6000 Pro XL. According to the ferrous nature of your finds....... It looks like your was using one of the allmetal modes on the Pro, GEB/Sat maybe? I have had one of these fine machines for a couple of years and mostly used GEB/Disc.since I am usually hunting for coins and jewelery. The GEB/Sat is a good mode to run in the iron trash with the tone mode turned on.......as you can sweep the coil much slower and check out all signals easier. Have continued success with yours!

only using the GEB Norm mode so far in the two times that I have used the 6000 because I am hunting in the woods where there's not much trash , well besides the nails and shotgun shells of course. I will have to give the GEB SAT a try with the tone modes on. Thanks for the tip. I think I'm gonna love this machine once I get a little more familiar with it. :) I have another 6000 on the way for backup.

OOPS! I forgot all about it I got reminded about it a day after by my wife YIKES! I guess i won;t be getting that new metal detector any time soon:ranting:

ihuntrelics: That nipple wrench is interesting. Are you in a Civil War area? Even if you are not, it's a great item. About a dozen years ago I found a heavily rusted Colt 1860 with the hammer still back (but frozen in place) and several charges still in the chambers.

Gun was found in the deep crack of a granite ledge where a gun fight had taken place in 1882 over a stolen US military payroll. I ended up donating the gun to a local museum. They still have it.

I had read about the shootout in a book of local history. Went to the very spot it was described and found not only the Colt revolver but more than 3 dozen empty shell casings of .44-40, .41 Colt and .45-70. Most of the casings were corroded down to the base. None were whole. Remains the most interesting thing I've ever done with a metal detector.

there were just small battles, skirmishes, camps and pickets. The colt revolver tool was found in a confederate camp.
