Vacation at St. George Island, Florida

Going to St. George Island FL. in a few weeks and was wondering if anyone has done any detecting there and how the beaches might be for detecting. Will be doing mostly dry sand hunting. Any info will be appreciated.

I've been there a few times for fishing mostly. If you drive toward the state park look to your right and you'll see a large parking lot area and some beach entrances. I'd go there. Most people drive up to the state park, see the fee they charge and turn around. They end up a the beach right in front of the park. Always crowded during spring break/summer. I detected some dry parts and did ok, not too much trash but I didn't detect for very long. I did find some change and some 2 junk rings. You have a lot of land to cover goodluck!! Oh pack some food and drinks, there aren't too many stores in that area. The state park is super nice but there are so many picnic areas that I don't think beaches get that crowded as they do outside.

Rented a beach house(west oceanfront)last October.Detected mostly dry sand as the water got too deep too fast.Found mostly clad & quite a few lead sinkers and several pulltabs.I'd suggest sweeping the pathways to some of the multimillion dollar beach houses.Surely there is jewelry to be found.A big bonus is that the beach is virtually deserted this time of year.(Don't forget to get some fresh seafood from the vender in the middle of town!!)DBULL

Thanks for the info guys. Heading down there in about 3 weeks. Got a new Tesoro Sand Shark to explore with on the beach and in the shallows of the tide. Hoping to find a few gold items. Thanks again and i'll let you know how everything turns out on the trip.

Just remember to listen for weak signals or whispers/crackles.When hunting small gold rings/chains small foil signals can be your best friend. After years of coin shooting, this was the hardest adjustment I had to make. This morning I found an earring back smaller than a buckshot & it rang in as a whisper w/ no vdi!!DBULL
