V3i Trash Tip

Rarely have I found myself in the Position to give a tip on the V3i but today I used a tactic that was a killer.

I am hunting an extremely trashy old house. In this area you would expect to use a lot of Discrimination.

I hunted an area for about 1 1/2 hours that was only 6' X 18' and I did not get it all covered to my satisfaction.

Everytime I hunted in discriminate mode all I got was one way blips and VDI numbers that were everywhere. I went into Pin Point mode and hunted it in Pin Point mode. All I did was watch the two bottom bars and when they were dominate I dug. I dug 37 coins in that small area. One hole had two roofing nails over a Penny and a Dime. All I got was a real quick Blip of the Bottom Bar so I knew there was something good there. I was using the 4X6 shooter coil.

Try this sometimes. I was surprised at how good it worked. In this area the TRX was not very useful in finding the target. There were nails and bits of metal everywhere.

Good going, you might find it easier to use all metal mode instead of pinpoint.

You might try consistency instead of intensity. It might make the spectragraph easier to read if the bars are jumping around. Try both and see what you like better.

Correlate instead of best data might quiet down the jumpy VDI. Again try both.

Actually I was in consistency, and I really don't like Intensity. Much more reliable in consistency.

I found that Correlate skewed my TDI numbers more than I liked. This old house is another one where I seem to have the Ashtray dumps. Hard to believe these folks actually lost that many Coins. A lot are dated in the 80s. So far no wheat pennies and no silver. A big but is due right here. When cleaning my coins that I have collected lately I found one that I thought originally was a Quarter. After it was tumbled I found that this is a Philippine 20 Centavos. These were minted in the US for the Philippines after World War II and are stamped United States of America on the back. They are silver and mine was dated 1944. It was found somewhere at this old house and I thought it was a regular Quarter. I threw it in with the Clad Quarters. I cleaned my clad to go to the Bank Monday and was glad I did. I was not willing to give Coinstar 10%.
