V3i stock programs? Also V3 / V3i differences

John (Ma)

I was curious how the stock programs were on the V3? Does it have any advantages over the MXT or DFX even in stock mode?

Also, what has changed from the V3 and V3i?

I have to say, I have been trying to read on this forum about the V3 and others as well and it seems very confusing. I am not sure if I should be really considering one at this time or sticking with the MXT. Thanks!:beers:

Only you can answer that John. All your questions have been covered many times. Have you gone to the Whites electronics site? Rob

Yes and I have talked to people that own them. Some say no problem and others say there is a pretty good learning curve to really get anything out of the detector. So I have to say I am very confused, LOL so I am asking for any other or new input that may be out there. I do not want to be one that buys and sells shortly after due to frustration as I see happening with the V3 and Minelab etrac. There is no doubt that there is potential, but I am no genious when it comes to computers. Thanks for your reply! :beers:

As you said all people are different. The transition to the V3 from the MXt was easy for me. The first time out I had to ask Larry how to make adjustments. I hadn't seen a manual. yet. Larry and I found over 300 quarters that weekend. I love mine. Rob

You are considering a move from a turn-on-and-go machine to a fully programmable top of the line machine. The differences are immense and not everyone needs or can learn to use a programmable detector, some people need the simplicity of a good machine with the minimum of adjustments like the MXT offers. You will have to make the decision what detector suits your needs the best. The preloaded programs on the V's are very good right out of the box, but for most of us they are just the base programs for us to adjust and tweak for our own hunting style, personal preferences, and ground conditions.

The changes on the V's are posted elsewhere on this forum and if you get a good buy on a V3, you will want to get it updated for a nominal fee for sure.

What I am finding out from personal experience is that the V3i will probably be the last detector I buy for a very long time

It is a true multi-purpose metal detector that seems to have the potential to work well at everything if the right coil is put on it. But I also find that I have to exercise patience with it as I can turn it into a stick real quick with a couple of clicks :stars: So when I get frustrated with it, I pick up my F5 and get happy.

Overall I like it. Not totally comfortable with it yet, not totally sure I know what always going on yet, but I find it growing on me.

I also own a v3i, and the learning curve has been tough. Here in Az. and my part of the state the ground is so hard much depth isn't need, but as to some of you on the forum have acsesse to help from people who are more up on this machine. I know what my question will get is read the manuel, which I have many times, I have received alot of help from these forums but still in the dark on some modes and clicking the right buttons

Hey John,

After I purchased the V3-i, I really battled with trying to understand the machine. Larry and Rob assured me that it was way too early to give up on the V. As each week passed, I found myself calling my target before I dug it. What I realized is I needed to see and hear what the V was telling me and once I paid attention and recognized the info, it became easier to make that choice of dig or pass. I'm still learning and still dig my share of crap, but I am more apt to dig good targets than bad with the info the V gives and I am able to understand.

Long story short, the longer you use the V and pay attention to the vast info it presents, the more you trust and enjoy your machine..
