V3i setting up with clad quarter 7 inches buried

I have been working on setting up my detector. I have a clad quarter.ter buried 7 inches. to I have it now able to get a clear signal at the 83 vdi. I kept woirking on chnaging different programs setting under hi pro to get the best signal. I have TX boost on, gain 4, discr 70. Is there any difference if I buried a silver quarter? . Or will the response still be 83 like the clad quarter? i have the Fillter on 7.5. I have false reading when I change the gain abouve 4. I get 3 solid lines at 4. Should I change the higher rx gain for deeper coins or stay at this to start. I have not yet went out MDing yet. Any adivice would be helpful. I love polar plot. Using the 10 dd standard coil.

You might want to turn Boost off and raise the Gain back up. Contrary to what one might think, Boost seldom give you more raw depth but it is used more to combat EMI issues.

If you have bad EMI, Boost On and reduced Gain might let you hear deep targets better. Boost Off will extend your battery life too.

A silver quarter might come in a little stronger and higher VDI than a clad but if you are just tweaking your V, it shouldn't really affect your settings any. You should experience more depth yet on a natural target that has been in the ground for many years vs. a freshly buried target.

I think thier is EMI behind me about 20 ft. When my AC unit comes on I notice it. If i raise my coil and turn around towards the ac unit and pull the trigger I see fluttering levels. I tried RX gain by itself but could not get the better reading all the way to 15. It never Overloaded. I think I should bury the coin further away from the house.

I could be wrong but a fresh burried coin is not going to give a reading like a coin or target that has been in the ground for a long period of time. Happy hunting Tex

TX Boost Use
1) Mild ground where I can generally run the RX gain up to 15, AND where there are very few targets. That is, a hunted out area where I really want to punch deeper.
2) Where RF noise is limiting the RX gain that I can run. In this case, TX boost can be switched on and I should be able to maintain the same RX gain as when it is off. If you can't get the gain to maximum, the TX boost would have little value. There is an exception... If your highest gain setting is limited by EMI instead of ground, then the TX boost can give a little more depth.

If Ground Filters, Frequency Offset and / or Salt Comp Mode, by themselves or in combination won't eliminate enough EMI to facilitate a successful hunt, or you wish to remain in a 3 Freq mode, try the following:
1. Drop RXG until the EMI effect is negated
2. Turn TXB = ON.
Since the transmitted frequency has nothing to do with EMI signal strength, this technique will improve the target signal return w/o increasing the EMI effect. What you're doing is improving the Target: Noise signal ratio (Increasing target return strength without increasing EMI effect).
