V3i question

Size reading in Analyze mode......... Does this adapt to different size targets in ground..assuming the 2 default is coin sized.. Lower left corner of screen on dotted lines on the V3i.

What exactly does this reference to ???????????

I had to go back and read the manual. It says the default shows 2 inches as the display width.

What I can tell you from my experience is, you need to pin point the target and pass the center of the coil directly over the target for it to be accurate. I also had to change the rate to 4 and the sweep speed to 15 in/s in the expert menu for it to be accurate for me.

Hope that helps

From reading the user manual - I'm under the impression that the resulting response (signal) of the detector to the target is from a 2" sampling of the target as the coil passes over. I hope someone corrects me if I'm off here .
The sizing term makes one think it's referring to target size. Like another detector (green) maker who has a represrntation target sizing scale on the display.

It says that also. The manual does leave one scratching their head.

It's my impression it's saying from the center of the screen out is an inch in each direction.

It can be hard sometimes to get it to read consentient.

That is right and consistency in swing speed will be key which takes some practice. I never use that feature because I can tell the size while pinpointing.

I'll try some different swing speeds and check out the readings.Reason I asked is Sunday I kept hitting deep pop cans as good targets. When I saw the size meter..I was hoping it would read higher on cans.. This would eliminate having to dig 10" deep Pop cans if it works... This would also explain to a degree why Manual states D2 requires as an almost must, side to side, and front to back moves over target in Pinpoint mode I would think........

This is correct.

The Analyze Screen needs to have a period of time of no targets before and after seeing a target. So wait, thousand one, thousand two before sweeping the target and before re-sweeping the target. Pinpoint the target before analyzing. Off center sweeps can cause anomalous patterns.
Settings that are too hot can cause anomalous patterns or no patterns. Having your settings too hot may cause the analysis graph to trigger on ground. If there is enough noise to be triggering it within that required quiet time, then it cannot trigger to display the signal, or it triggers later and shows the wrong data. If your noise source has signals that are as large as your deep targets, you will not be able to see a good reading either.

I do what Larry says and use pinpoint. The key for me there (as I re-discovered yesterday) is not having the AM too high. I run mine at 65 most of the time.
