V3i performance

Hello everyone,

I have several questions about the Spectra V3i. In a previous outing with my father, he has found a Roman coin has approximately 15/20 cm with his Deus, to test I spent my detector above the target and no response ...

I currently use, the Magic program, I wanted to know if you could give me or tell me what are the settings that most influence the depth because I feel badly adjusted with my detector.

The ground is slightly mineralized and slightly polluted. Do you have any tips to share?

Regards,

I'm not that familiar with the Magic program but I'm sure you got some sort of a response on the display with the coin. If you did not get an audio response, you probably have the audio target ID for that coin rejected. Try all metal or pinpoint mode to see what the target ID is and make sure you have that range of targets accepted. If the Deus can "see" the coin, the V3i will also.

Magic's program is set up primarily for U.S. coins if I remember correctly and you might want to load a European coin program.

Gary's simple 2 tone UK settings

As requested this is one of my simple to use programmes (english spelling) I use the SEF 10x12 so sensitivity settings may change for your soil or weather conditions or if you are using different coils.

False signals : Are the biggest V3i complaints I find the discrimination sensitiviy is closely related to false signals rather than RX gain, don't be afraid to lower it and kep the RX gain as high as possible, if the V3i is running smoothly it can still be running hot do not under estimate it's power, try to find the point where you get only the occasional false signal over odd shaped iron, which can be recognised with a smearing pattern on the screen. A low All metal sensitivity will give you depth information when pin pointing...deep targets will only just register. I prefer to use a black screen with silver numbers, perhaps someone on the forum can add some simple tips on how it can be achieved.
Filters: I prefer to run a low filter and hear all the iron, EMI problems can normally be sorted using frequency offsets.
ANALYSIS : Not for UK searching
Recovery : 28 go up to 40 if you have clean ground
Load up the Hi Pro program (US spelling)

UK programme based on Hi-Pro

Found using the Factory Hi-Pro settings on my V3i with following alterations worked well here in Scotland over a busy field.

RX-10 ,Discrim-85, Recovery-30, Filter-10 band pass. Rest of settings i.e. volume etc user choice.

Just what 2 UK guys are using.

To be fair to everyone using V3is and so all can learn from you experience.

In Magic's Program ______ Were you using the program exactly as published or had you made some modifications to it?

Before everyone muddies the water on this one, with their replies, stop; and help Jugen by

making him examine the facts, and then tell us more about the situation etc.

So Dad is using a DEUS.....What program,,,,,,,,, what FREQUENCY and SENSITIVITY.

The ROMAN COIN......What coin was it?......(or some idea of its metal...AND diameter and thickness.)

15/20 cms.........6 to 8 inches..... Was that in the ground or testing in-air.........?

Are you using the stock coil?

Over to you Jurgen; basic information required please......Matt

Matt, we actually don't need the Deus settings. Most of us have never used the Deus and don't hunt your coins, in your soil. I gave him two programs used in the UK. I can help him with the V3i, how to use it, what adjustments do what, how to make adjustments, and trouble shoot the unit.

The forum is not for discussing the Deus. If we have any UK guys on the forum share your programs with him.

Hello,

@Explorer, I use the program that Magic has published.
@Matt:Roman coins looks like this:
52ut.jpg

Kind of metal: Bronze. Diameter: 2cm thickness: 0.2 cm
The coin was on the ground under a layer of rocks
I use the stock coil

Matt, I didn't notice you were new to the forum. They don't allow comparisons between detectors on this forum. You should be able to in the general detecting forum.

Matt, I think the stock Magic program should have seen the Roman coin that it did not is rather perplexing. The only rejected ranges are +95, -95 to -89 should detect anything in the bronze (brass) range. The RX gain, Discrimination and All Metal settings are high enough to see an item like this deeper than 8 inches. Even the delay is good for this size coin. I would try the detector and coil with the factory coin/jewelry program on some other standard coins to be sure it is working then go back to the Magic and try it with the same set of test coins and see if the program fails. It is easy to change a setting you may have not intended to (been there myself).

Correction: -95 to -89....Sorry

I knew what you meant. Magic just rejects those numbers (-95 to -89) because they are the VDI range of his soil. You need to find the VDI of your soil in the UK to get the same effect. Most people reject +95 because that is the VDI the V3i assigns to targets it doesn't know.
