V3I balance for wet sand

scotchman

New member
Hi I am the Scotchman from Connecticut:

I have a V3I and have been trying to get it quieted down on wet sand on the ocean. Had the machine for about a year. Basically hunt fresh water beaches and cellar holes. I have the 10 inch DD and a Eclipse 5.3 coils. The last time I was at the beach (ocean) I used the 10 inch DD. It worked great in dry sand but as soon as it got to the wet sand it went haywire as if I was sitting on a power line. Tried dropping the RF gain and changed filters but it would not quiet down. Can anyone help me with this problem? Should I use the 5.3 instead of the 10 inch coil?

The 5.3 is too small for the beach. Get a 9.5 or 12" coil they are concentric coils. It is know that at the salt water beach the concentric coil is the ticket for the V3i.

What Rob said. Eclipse 950 or Super 12

Does the same advice hold true for freshwater beaches such as riverbanks and sandbars?
