V3i - a couple of questions

I'm going to be buying a V3i soon and would like your input.

> Any idea if the coils I have for the DFX will work with the V3i (any changes need to be done to the V3i to use them)?

> If you had to by one after market coil that worked on land as well as at the beach, what would it be?

> Does the "stock" coil work OK?

> Did the V3i change what you were finding (age, silver, quantity)?

Thanks for your time. Looking forward to trying this machine.

Welcome to the forum Douce. The coils used on the DFX will work on the V series, but if the coils have V at the beginning of the serial number, they will work better with the 22.5 frequency.

Yes, the stock coil works great and that is why it was chosen to be the coil sold with the V. It works well in MOST hunting situations and the first coil most people buy is a smaller one for hunting in the trash but if you want one for beach hunting, I would consider a larger coil for coverage and depth. The 12" would be a good choice for that.

I still finding the same ole stuff with the V, I find them deeper though.

Thanks for the welcome and the reply Larry.

I am looking forward to the V3i but the learning curve, ??? (if it was easy then everyone would be doing it, right?). I need to learn my frequencies better it sounds like to use the V3i.

Finding same ole stuff but deeper - that's a real positive. Nothing like getting a real good "quarter" signal from 8"+ in depth. Haven't found any halves or dollars yet and hope to someday.

and when I got my V3i the coils I had were useless in multi frequency, best data. I had to use single frequency 2.5KHz or 7.5KHz.

Neil ..what coil on v3i is best for the 3 frequency ...and which ones for single only????? .....ron

Ron,

On December 4th, 2010, I used the SEF coil for the very first time on my V3i. It has since become my default coil. Whether I run in Best Frequency, which I use most often, or 7.5 KHz, which I occasionally use when conditions warrant it, the SEF gets the job done. I have not used it in 22.5KHz at all but I am sure it would work fine in any single frequency. I like the longer profile, which allows me to cover more ground with each sweep; the same ground as if I was using a Super 12 - but it is as narrow as the D2 for tighter spots.

My accessory coil is the 5.3 for really tight spots or the occasional trashy areas I encounter.

People need to ask why they are buying an accessory coil. I think some times they are buying them for reasons that the coil will not provide. You will see that there are accomplished people who don't use the same coil because they hunt in differencing conditions and soil.

Yea iv got diff types of places some trashy and some full of nails around foundations in woods ...for the 5.3 ..... other cleaner areas for SEF...rob are both of these dd including stock coil that comes on v3i????? Or is any of them concentric

5.3, 9.5, and 12 are concentric. The other Whites coils for the V are DD. The SEF is 2 overlapping oval windings.
